Have you guys heard the episode of this American Life from a couple weeks ago?
It's called Mr. Daisy and the Apple Factory. It's an interesting look at a fanboy's journey to China to see how Apple products are made and the people who make them.
The guy's story is really interesting, but the show balances out some of the negative things that come out with fact-checks.
Also, I think what he finds to be true for Apple products is likely true for all of our consumer electronics.

This American Life does a great job across the board with their podcasts. OT, but their most recent one is about the Euro Debt Crisis and they explain it in a way that would make sense to even the biggest rah-tards. I recommend it.

'm sure my Motorola phone and many other consumer electronics come from a factory with appalling conditions as well.
This American Life is an incredibly well done show.

It was a very good listen. Describing how the cleaning agent used being slightly faster drying than alcohol but its a neurotoxin was disturbing.

I haven't gotten to listen to that episode yet, but I'm sure it is excellent. Even including TV, This American Life may be my favorite show of all time.

Actually, I'd say you do. The Anti-Fanboy is much more willing to point out their superiority than the Apple-Fanboy.
Have you ever heard an Apple-Fanboy say "Look at my Apple product it comes from a factory that practices civil rights and fair work conditions!"

Americans need to maintain clean and usable public restrooms before they can go out and calling other countries' customs and cultures appalling.

Sure, except it's mainly American companies that are fueling the manufacturing, so I wouldn't call it another country's "customs and cultures."

Did I say I don't use phones or computers? No. I said I think it's important to know where the stuff we buy comes from and who the people are who make it. Sometimes that information WILL affect my choices. If you don't give a shit, that's fine. I wouldn't go trumpeting it around unless you want people to think your an asshole, but whatever.

The monologist Mike Daisey’s account of Chinese factory conditions in “The Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs” made people think differently about their iPhones and iPads. But after an adaptation aired on This American Life, reaching China, an investigation there of his allegations found they were fabricated. Given other news reports on the conditions, will that matter?
