Trey Burke: He gone! He's staying! (UPDATE: Who cares?)

  • Waiting for Staudt to confirm.

I refuse to believe guy 5'9" can play in the NBA. Earl Boykins he is not.

Not that you're a U of M fan, you obviously aren't, but one of the funniest things about this whole saga has been Trey Burke, the incredible shrinking man. Burke is listed at 5-11, all year long though Michigan fans have been saying, "well, he's actually 6-1 at least". "I stood next to him and I am 6-0 and he was taller than me for sure." The minute he expressed an interest in the draft he has been shrinking for them, "he's really only 5-10." "I stood next to him and he's lucky if he's 5-8"

There's no doubt he's a small point guard at 5-11, but I would be willing to bet that half the players in the NBA listed at 6-0 or even 6-1 are really 5-10 or 5-11. In fact, how much you want to bet that Trey Burke is just as tall as Chris Paul who is listed at 6-0, 175 lbs. And as someone mentioned, if height was the limiting factor, he isn't going to grow any next year.

Let me rephrase that. There are people that can play in the NBA at 5'9", or 5'11", but he is not one of them.

Well he's not gonna grow, so why not go when your position is weak in the draft? Next year he will be the same height but might have more competition at pg

  • I heard from an Ohio source earlier today that WOTS is that Burke is hiring an agent.

I disagree, I don't think he'll be a star, but he's good enough to play in the NBA, he could be a good change of pace guard to bring in off the bench.

I think these borderline kids are thinking if they can at least get drafted they can improve thier game more at the NBA level than they can in college.

  • Perhaps Burke is the U-M "football player" who recently complained about the poor quality of women in AA.

When I read the tweet from Webb, that's the 1st thing I thought, he hired an agent. Anything else would just be rumors and Sam Webb has a pretty good track record.

Also heard that word around Ann arbor is that Burke has dropped out of his classes

  • Good luck to the kid, boy is Michigan Basketball fucked for next year though.

    Johnny2x2x

  • If he can make the 1st round or if he doesn't particularly like taking classes, he should go. IMHO, this year may be his best chance for cracking that first round.

  • Is it really that big of a mistake? The kid had a hell of a year this year, and it would be tough to match it next year, let alone improve on it. I get that he's small, but he's not growing between now and next April.

  • Serious question.

Has Burke stayed in aa and continued to go to class?

Last year Darrius Morris was MIA from classes campus weeks before the last game and then was gone from campus after the team's last game

Someone just posted they heard a rumor he hasn't returned to class, someone else said they heard he was talking to an agent. Who know's what. But, I do know this, mblowglob had a couple small threads today where people were asking what was up and the threads got pulled down. mblowjob likes to break a story on their front page and Sam Webb is pretty much the bible over there and it's his tweet that started this thread. Webb isn't going to tweet that without intimate knowledge, he risks pissing off his entire fan base if he is wrong, in fact if there was a chance he could be wrong he would have just sat on it IMO.

We're going to kick their ass with or without Trey Burke next year, but without him they are going to have a tough time winning 7 games in the B1G and that will be fun to watch.

  • Who cares? coffee
IMHO, I'm not sure he's that ready for the NBA. John Wall certainly wasn't and had WAYYYY more hype.
This dude COULD put in major work during the summers a la Derrick Rose, T.J. Ford - but who knows...

Not a big mistake. Additional years simply allow NBA scouts to pick your game apart.

  • If John Lucas, Earl Boykens, DJ Augustin, Aaron Brooks, Ray Felton and so on can make a living in the NBA, and if Trey believes he's at that level then so be it. There's worse players than him that are career bench warmers in the NBA and still make 7 figures just for being in the veteran minimum.
