UFC 148: Sonnen vs. Silva

  • Eggy said...

Silva is ridiculous. He just leaves his hands at his sides and doesn't even bother protecting his face. When someone takes a shot he just dodges and proceeds to beat the piss out of them

I think it also reflects how thin his weight class is/has been for a few years. It seems to often than not, like a recycling sport.........tomatoe cans who may still sell some PPV tickets keep popping up for championship cards. I can't wait to see Frank Mir fight Brock ............Again.loco

Yes. He's an all-time great. That's what happens. He's also 37 years old, and won't fight forever, and certainly won't move up 20lbs to get his ass whooped by an athletic freak that is bigger, faster, stronger, 15 years younger, and unbeatable.

If people want to talk about fights that will never happen, GSP vs. Silva is a more reasonable pipe-dream.

    Unbeatable. lol

Jones showed some weaknesses in hiss last couple of figHts. Henderson is savvy enough too exploit them.

That unbeatable tag has been used before, on guys that now have losses on their records.

Silva's beaten 9 different middleweights during his title run. Not much you can do when a guy is that dominant. Hector Lombard is the only really intriguing guy at that weight class. We'll see if he's for real in a couple weeks.

I think the weight class just looks thin because he's ran through it so easily. It's hard to sustain someone as a viable top fighter if Silva just destroys him when they fight and the belt never changes hands.

Not even sure what Frank & Brock have to do with the middleweight divison or even the HW division for that matter. Neither has held the belt for years now.

I think Chael fucked himself up spinning into the fence to start the beginning of the end there

He fucked himself before the fight even started. Insulting his opponent's country? Why give someone like Silva any more added motivation? Especially something as over the top as that.

I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.

  • Seriously what the fuck is the matter with Forrest Griffin? He has had some bizarre in cage behavior before but last Saturday toook the title for all time weirdness.

That's just the way Sonnen is. Damn near everything he says is tongue in cheek.

Pissing off Anderson wasn't the problem. You just can't make a mistake against him. He made a giant one.

Well, Silva wasn't happy with the comments and neither were millions of Brazilians. I don't think they found his comments humorous.

Like I said, why give someone like Silva any added motivation? Stupid.

  • A mad fighter is a bad fighter. Maybe that's the reason why Sonnen was able to dump him on his back so easily at the outset.

It's the fight game and evoking emotion is how you sell tickets/PPVs.

  • There's a reason the term "bulletin board material" exists.

"Mad fighter = bad fighter"? meh...

Strange how so many fighters can be modest, (see Silva, Pac Man, etc...) and still be a huge draw. Maybe talent trumps talk?

At any rate, glad the loud mouth got his comeuppance. Silva shut him up and then invited him to a BBQ. lol

Silva isn't that huge of a draw. This was by far the biggest PPV of his career and a big reason is because Sonnen ran his mouth for 2 years. When Mark Munoz fights Anderson next they'll do half the buyrate of this event.

Silva and Bones Jones are probably the biggest draws in the company. All the trash talk and the 2 year buildup most definitely increased this buyrate, but I certainly wouldn't say he's not a huge draw. If he's not then who is?

He's one of the biggest draws they have right now but other than this event his buyrates aren't in the top 10. GSP, Lesnar, Liddell, Rampage, and Evans all consistently posted bigger numbers.

Frank and Brock have absolutely nothing to do with the middleweight division....their heavyweights. The example was used in regards to the recycling of candidates on championship cards.

Well Brock hasn't fought in a title fight that didn't involve him defending his belt in close to 4 years and has only fought once in the last year and a half. Frank Mir has been in one title fight in the last 2 years (because of an injury, btw). They last fought each other 3 years ago. So, yeah they've been recycling those two in championship bouts like crazy.

Type faster and do more research instead.
