UPDATE: On a scale of 1-10, how bad do you hate your job?

  • For me, the most important thing is having a good boss.

I could have a crappy job, working for a crappy company; but if I have a good boss, it can be a lot of fun.

On the other hand, I could have my dream job, working for a great company; but if I have a bad boss, I would be miserable.

Had a "dream job" back home, with a complete jackass for a boss. The work, for this industry, was great. Fast pace, high pressure, problems to solve, people to keep employed,...I loved it. The boss made the average workday intolerable.

Moved here for a better job, and then the economy went in the tank, and my job (and others) went with it. Uphill battle ever since.

  • I would say most of the time 3 or 4 but there have been days lately where I can't stand it.

Everyone in the office talks behind your back. Can't even socialize with someone anymore without letting the boss know you are on a break or taking the conversation to the bathroom. I've been called out multiple times for "not working" because I was having a 2 minute convo with the person in the cube next to me.

There is also the employee who doesn't do SHIT while she works. Always on her phone and Youtube instead of getting her work done. She brings our metrics down every month. The boss tried to turn her in but she pulled the race card so the entire thing was dropped.

Currently looking for a new gig out of state. Can't wait to get out of the toxic environment.

For 3 months of the year, I'd say my job is a 7 or 8. Working in public accounting, the hours are awful in January, February, and March and the pay doesn't make up for it because we don't get paid overtime (I make the same amount working 250 hours in February that I make working 160 hours in July). That being said, it's mostly that the long hours wear you down. I like what I do. I like the people I work with (for the most part). I even like most of my clients (which is good, because being an auditor at a client you don't like working with is miserable)

April-December, it's probably a 2. I love my job and the company takes good care of us during those months to make sure we take it easy. I have plenty of vacation time and there aren't many stressful days on the job. Sure, the quarterly audits are a little tough, but compared to the year end work, it's a breeze. Honestly, the worst part about my job is something I did to myself by moving 30 miles away from the office. It takes me a good 45 minutes to get there in the morning and usually an hour to get home unless I leave before or after rush hour. That being said, I knew what I was getting into when I bought the house, so I only have myself to blame. Luckily, 90% of my clients are in the suburbs and I'm 25 minutes from them during the busiest time of the year.

This. I'm on the tax side of things and am already sick of Saturdays but am looking forward to a slower summer. Already have a few vacations planned to look forward to and help me get through tax season. It definitely could be worse!

  • Day to day, my job is fine. I've only been working out of college for about 6 months. The concern comes in when I question whether I should be doing something else. I'm in a good field with a chance to make very good money down the road, but it's also a field that I could get pigeonholed, and at 23 can anybody really be super confident they made the right choice? I just sort of chose a major in college, had no clue what I wanted to do. These concerns take it from a 1 or 2 to a 5.

In the same field as the guy above me.

  • 7. Decent title, decent purpose. Crappy pay, idiot management. Culture of people not able to wait to get out.

Wouldn't be half as bad if I hadn't already tasted the good life. Beats gaps in employment I guess, but if any of you schmucks works for Lilly, Pfizer or Merck I'll suck you off for a job

Only been about 6 months for me as well, did do a busy season internship though so feels longer. But I hear you on the second guessing on career choice. I will give this a while before I would seriously consider something else but can't say it hasn't crossed my mind.

  • I hate my job 13 out of 14 days

    ClankyIronBoots

  • I'm about a 9. I just loved having the highest degree out of everyone but getting paid the lowest and being a glorified secretary. However, as much as I hate it, it's a job and I have insurance. So I am grateful for that, and most of my awesome coworkers. I am currently looking to change careers, and just keep my options open.

  • anywhere from a 1 to a 10. If I had control over everything including ass retarded dipshits that thing the world revolves around them (that refers to 95% of all people) it would be a 1/10 every day.. Based on one being super awesome.

Yea my busy season internship was in 2011 so I had a big gap. Like you I plan to let it ride for a couple years, like I said I don't dislike the job, and evaluate the opportunity from there.

I'd say about a 3. The long hours suck and the work isn't extremely rewarding, but I'm making six figures in my mid 20s, and have very little in the way of expenses. Bosses are cool, and the culture is generally young and hip.

I definitely don't like the hours at all. But I figure that if I do this for about 5 more years, I'll have enough in the bank where I can take a $60k 35 hour a week job with good benefits and have a very enjoyable remainder of my life until my trust becomes available to me. Also, the fact that I can take a weekend trip somewhere and blow $5k without any worries is an extremely good feeling.

  • When I started at my job in 2000, it was a 2 until 2007. Then things changed.

    From 2007 to present it has progressed from a 2 to a 5, then a 7, now a 9. Not good.

Seriously thinking about leaving a job I used to love. I see others out there in the same industry doing much better than I am, with much less stress.

Gotta start putting feelers out to see what might be out there. I can't take much more of this even though the money is great, have a pension, and great retiree benefits. The pension and retiree benefits are the only reason I have stuck it out this long. Awful work environment right now, no support, been that way for 5 years and gets worse every day.

  • Just started my first real job this week. Co workers are great and boss is a friendly, fun guy so it is off to a good start. Combination of paperwork which is a bore but also science-y benchwork which I enjoy. I am gonna peg it at a 3 but only because I have to get up early in the morning.
