Normally I would never say that unless I thought someone absence from this earth would literally have no downside. Like if every grand-wizard, fascist leader, and Jerry Sandusky of the world never existed.... Would anyone lament that?

• Charlie Davies has a year left on his deal with Sochaux, a club teetering on the edge of relegation with one match remaining in the season. Davies has received limited playing time with the first team since returning from his MLS loan, and relegation could actually play into his favor if the club is forced to sell off some of its attacking talent. Either way, for a player hell-bent on returning to the national team picture, he needs a place where he can play regularly. If Sochaux is not going to be that club, will it be more willing to part ways with Davies with his contract winding down? Will he at least be granted a loan elsewhere? So out of a pool of 21,500 men to select a team and compete in international soccer, we get that. A 3-1 win? Find 11-15 guys in Westland and make a minor level World Cup team and see how they do against the US National team.

Basically yes. He has way more hurdles than Adu did to get back to the national team.

He has to
1) Actually find playing time somewhere, and actually continue to play there for more than a year.
2) Become better than Agudelo. Bradley plugged Agudelo into Davies old spot, and the team didn't really miss a beat. Agudelo got moved to Chivas once it became clear that NYRB wasn't going to give him enough PT.
3) Adapt to the 4-3-3. Agudelo has shown that he can be a pseudo #9 like Gomez (especially when that Dempsey guy can help you out), and has played a bit in a 4-3-3 for Chivas (though I'd expect him to play more in the middle). Davies is too small to be a CF, and he needs to play to show that he can play any position.
4) He also has to beat out most of these guys Torres, Gomez, Shea, Corona, Sacha, Bedoya, Adu, and others.
5) Prove that he is not a liability. That car accident happened in between WCQ games in an international window. Can he be trusted?
