Sideline +1
You've probably never heard of it. NCAA + CLC have done a real nice job in keeping this quiet.Basically, Nike/Adidas/UA are pushing schools to restrict licensing down to two apparel manufacturers. The company providing the coach/team uniforms gets licensing rights on almost all of the collegiate garments. NFL has this type of licensing system. Adidas/Reebok has exclusive rights over 95% of the garments sporting an NFL logo.
There are 100's of small companies in the collegiate licensing industry who are going to be put out of business over the next few years. Independent screen printers, embroidery shops, novelty manufacturers, family owned garment companies. Several of these companies are located right here in the State of Michigan.
MSU has not joined (Sideline Plus 1), yet. But you can bet Nike is pushing for this to happen. Yes, Nike contributes a lot of money into our university and into our coaches pockets. But in reality, they don’t do much for our State economy.
This is a really bad deal for everyone, well except Nike/Adidas/UA.
The point to all of this is that as these licensing deals get bigger so do the consequences. Nike/Adidas/UA are pushing for an NFL like system where competition is limited. This will result in higher prices for the consumers and hurt local economies.

There are roughly 25 small businesses in the State of Michigan that produce collegiate licensed products. Under the Sideline +1 deal they would lose their licenses and no longer be allowed to produce those products.
Just buyer beware with the endless Nike/Adidas +UA love.Giant Moose ●

Most of the non-Nike gear is ugly and often, the wrong shade of green. I'd rather MSU made a lot of money so it keeps upgrading and enhancing its facilities than worry about Bob's $5 discount T-shirt shop.

Can you argue without being a dick?
Check out the list of MSU approved licensed vendors, this is a good barometer for the number of companies that would be effected at EACH school. There are plenty of Michigan based companies, as well as Cali, Florida, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, etc. If you think putting all of the smaller companies out of business is good for the consumer than you should probably revisit your economics text..
