As I was listening to this story on NPR this morning, the woman said "Four elite universities are participating, Princeton, Stanford, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of..." and I thought to myself, she's going to say Michigan, isn't she? And she did. Those fucks.
Anyway, cool idea. Anything that makes quality education more widely available is a good thing.

If anyone's interested in the subject, I'd suggest Internet History, Technology, and Security by Dr. Chuck Severance. He has been a fantastic lecturer over the last two semesters; his format is very good at introducing new subjects such as programming to students that have little to no experience. Also he's a Spartan grad, used to be a MSU professor back in the 90s, and has brought in a MSU Professor to guest lecture on multiple occassions.

The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.

On one Michigan board there is a thread where someone proudly proclaims "They cannot call me a Walmart Wolverine anymore!!!"
I thought it was pretty hilarious. I'd love to hear a conversation with some Walvie in the future, "I passed a 7 week online sociology course, proud U-M grad!"
