Update on Cousins from Senior Bowl

  • I would take KC all day long. Great arm. Great character and huge upside. Throws in tight spots which most college QBs can't do right away.

If Cousins somehow ends up grading as 1st round talent, I still don't see him getting drafted until the 2nd round. Who's going to draft a QB in the 2nd half of the first round? The Broncos? The Ravens?

I still see him as a 3rd-4th round pick. He still has to compete with Tannehill, Foles, Osweiler, and Weeden. One of those 4 or him, will be the 3rd QB off the board, and likely it will occur in the 2nd round.

I think he'll be a 2nd round guy. Weeden won't get drafted until late - dude turns 29 at the start of the next NFL season. Other than that, who the hell knows what order the rest will go in.

After the Pats and Lions, the 49ers would be one of the last teams to draft him. Harbaugh is perfectly happy with Smith being the QB, and Kaepernick is a 2nd round pick who can execute the whole playbook (i.e. he can run QB reads and draws like Smith). Swapping out Tolzien for Cousins is a 6th round pick, not a 2nd rounder.

Teams that would be in the market for a QB in the top 4 rounds:
    Dolphins
    Chiefs
Colts (they're going to take Luck though)
    Jets
    Redskins
    Browns
    Bucs
    Cardinals
    Bears
    Seahawks
    Steelers

There are probably others, but nothing else really sticks out/teams are already invested in a 1st rounder as of late (Vikings, Titans, etc.)

Crap, I accidentally hit downvote on this. Can someone please upvote the brother so it doesn't count against him?

Weeden is like 28 years old and Tannehill just broke his foot and will miss the combine.

  • I was hoping Linthicum would make some noise. He wasn't a huge part of our offense, but his best games were always against the toughest teams. He made a ton of plays against georgia, and he had a good game against alabama, too. He can play with the best competition out there, and he's the type of TE that is getting really popular, I thought Scheffler was a pretty good comparison.

  • I've said it before here, the guy throws a beautiful ball. If he has a good week, and looks good at the combine, there is no way he gets to the end of the 3rd round. There are no less than 8 NFL teams with aging or questionable QBs and about 2/3 legit 1st round QB picks. Weeden is too old. Who is going to use a 2-5th rounder on a guy that needs a couple years to develop...then he is 31 years old?

He had a really nice game in the reg season game with Wisky and I believe in the CCG game against them as well.

Ravens?! I'm assuming that's a typo and you meant Raiders? I'd love the Ravens to get him, but he would have top drop to middle/late rounds.

I also love that this report comments on how strong Kirk's arm is when the arm chair Lombardi's on this board said it was a weak spot in his game.

What I was getting at was that the Ravens wouldn't draft a QB with a 1st rounder, even though some people don't like Flacco. LIterally no team who finished in the top half of the NFL would use a 1st Rounder on a QB, they are all pretty set with their starters. The exceptions would be Houston, who has plenty of talent, and will probably stick with Schaub (and what they have is really good), and the Browns who have Atlanta's pick (#22), in addition to #4. Again, with the Browns, they should have a shot at RGIII (unless a trade occurs), so why would they draft someone with their next pick?

As for Tannehill, his stock will definitely drop (i thought he was overrated anyways). Weeden won't be drafted before Cousins, but he does affect every QB (outside of RGIII and Luck) in the draft. If you think you can pick up Weeden in the 5th or 6th round, you may balk on drafting Foles or Cousins in the 2nd.

Kirk Cousins has been very impressive early in this practice. He looks like the only #NFL QB on this roster

  • Scott Wright has a post on the weigh in that took place yesterday:

KC weighed in at 209 and measured at 6' 2.25" and "Notes: Decent muscle tone and looked the best of all the QBs."

He listed Linthicum as having "Little definition but large, rangy, and athletic."

  • FYI. The Vikings staff is coaching the North team, which Cousins is on, and the Redskins staff is coaching the South team. A bit of bad luck for Cousins, b/c I think that if the Redskins were coaching the North team, there's a chance that they could really like what they see and take him at the top of the 2nd round...

Since it's the Vikings, I'm not holding my breath...

Everybody is looking at everything all the time... AND ESPECIALLY it's not like the Skins aren't going to notice the QB they are going against.

I couldn't care less what round he goes in, as long as he gets in a good situation

I've never understood that. His arm is probably average or just slightly below average for an NFL QB. He at times put too much on balls for college receivers. His arm strength is more than fine, and combined with the accuracy and touch and how amazingly catchable his medium/deep passes have been from his first college start... It's an NFL level ball he throws.

IF I'm allowed to actually honestly critique him now that he's gone... The questions I'd have are pocket presence, mobility, and reading defenses... Seriously 3 of his last 10 passes in the Outback bowl should have been picks, I believe 2 of them were... He just doesn't see defenders sometimes.

It's almost impossible to watch now, which is sad... but Kirk was truly elite in that B1GCCG. Maybe 4 bad throws all game, and the pick was one of those throws where you just let it go, you aren't even expected to read before you deliver it. A couple really nice throws to KMart on outs where it loops over the LBs and in front of the safties. The 4th and 1 to BJ was just perfect, he threw a 30 yard marshmallow in stride on 4th down.

Amen. He kept us in that fucking game. That pick was his only bonehead play, but yeah, let it go.

    I'm really gonna miss him.
