Meyer wants the Big Ten to recruit better because he wants it to be better and he wants it to have a better reputation. He knows it's going to be tougher to get into the 4 team playoff with the current reputation of the conference than it would be if other teams bumped recruiting, and eventually on field performance. He doesn't think he'll ever get out done by any of the conference's teams, but I bet he is worried about being passed over come playoff time by other 1 loss teams who play in perceived better conferences.

We can't have it both ways. Do you want the B1G to maintain certain academic and "ethical" standards or have a great academic reputation and be a run of the mill football conference? I don't necessarily like how Meyer recruits but the results are obvious. OSU runs an SEC style program in this regard and they were undefeated last year and will be the class of the conference once again whether you like his style or not.
