VAN FREAKING HALEN

  • If that doesn't get your juices flowing. Then how about this:

New studio album to be released February 7 in North America. February 8 in Japan; February 6 possible for EU/UK or February 13 at latest. Tour Dates for first leg of 2012 tour announced January 3.
Single released (along with video clip) January 10. Tickets for first leg of tour on sale January 10.
Album and single titles yet to be revealed and rumored bonus DVD could be part of a deluxe edition of the album.

And if that still didn't work then you are probably:

    b) an iPhone user

    Saw nothing about all this.

  • Based on the newer songs they did on the greatest hits with Roth, they still got it. If Journey and Def Leppard can make money still, they can............They were 10 times better than most if not all of the 80's cock rock bands

  • Van Halen is horrible. None of their music - especially Van Hagar - stands the test of time. It's just awful.

VH with Roth still sounds as good as any big, dumb rock and roll can sound. Alex was a standout on drums and Eddie was a virtuoso among rock guitarists. If they are motivated and not totally gone on painkillers or booze, there is no reason the album couldn't sound good.

    Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.

I agree with you on the Van Hagar stuff. But the stuff they did with Roth pre 1985 is classic and really holds up well.

I liked Hagar pre VH, and I like him post VH. The Van Hagar years were awful.

  • I have never been a fan of Van Halen or Van Hagar. That being said, I'm SO not excited about this to the point that I couldn't care less.

  • Went to the reunion tour a few years ago! Awesome and Eddie's son was like 16. Kicked Micheal Anthony out. Valerie was standing by us on the soundboard area keeping an eye on Wolfgang! They were great and it was my first time seeing them. JLArockon

    confused

Aside from VH1 and 1/2 of "1984" and a handful of covers, VH with DLR was just not good at all. Most of the albums between "VH1" and "1984" were just garbage and their hit songs were covers. I don't deny that the band was talented but when looking back on the music it really was just bad. Most of those albums only had like 8 or 9 songs on them. Van Halen sucks. Fuck them.

Their biggest hits during the DLR era were cover songs: "You really got me", "Pretty woman", "Where have all the good times gone", "Dancing in the street" - then there was "Jump" and "Panama." It's tough to give a band props for covering other peoples' music and turning them into hits. Aside from maybe a handful (and that's being generous) of tracks most of their own material is just awful. Go back and listen to "Why can't this be love" and tell me you think that's a great song lol

BTW: Didn't you make a video of yourself rocking out to "Jump Around"? Yeah, you are really a respected opinion on good music. lol

  • They were an amazingly stupid band. Having said that, David Lee Roth was occasionally amusing (in an amazingly stupid sort of way) and Van Halen was a guitar god. That first album was like a revelation when it came out--an amazingly stupid revelation, but a revelation nonetheless.

Don't knock on "Jump"!!! Some of the greatest lyrics in all of the entire complete history of vocal music. Bested only by the chanting monks.

I get up, and nothing gets me down.
i like to jump. and then go round and round
And I know, just how it feels.
You've got to roll with the punches to get to what's real
Oh can't you see me standing here,
I've got my back against the record machine, I ain't the worst that you've seen.
Oh can't you see what I mean ?

Might as well jump. Jump !
    Might as well jump.
    Go ahead, jump. Jump !
    Go ahead, jump.

Hey you ! Who said that ?
    Baby how you been ?
You say you don't know, you won't know
    until you begin.
Well can't you see me standing here,
I've got my back against the record machine
    I ain't the worst that you've seen.
Oh can't you see what I mean ?

    Might as well jump. Jump!

  • When VH first hit it big one of my good friends was the bassist in one of the big bar bands around MSU/East Lansing, and he just went on and on and on about how Michael Anthony sucked ass as a bassist -- he thought Eddie was awesome on guitar and Alex pretty good on drums but he just went on how Anthony was just ass-horrible.

Maybe Wolfgang is a big improvement??

Looking at the trailer video -- EVH looks like hell again. He should have kept the short-haired spiky look.

But Big Dave looks in a hell of a lot better shape than Steven Tyler, you have to give him that.

  • EVH very well may be one of the greatest guitarists of all time, that being said, their finished product should have been better. They appeal to the lowest common denominator of music fans.
