Valenti torching Izzo

  • He isn't really torching him. He just isn't letting Izzo off the hook.

  • This was a much better team with Dawson. When he got hurt the Final Four chance took a huge blow. His athleticism and rebounding were sorely missed. He was becoming a double double guy.

Hey, I'm disappointed we aren't playing this weekend too. But, who do I want representing me and my university Izzo or Valenti? Hum, Izzo or Valenti? It's Izzo, dammit, it's Izzo!

Izzo may not be the Massiah, but he's pretty close.

We are all disappointed. That doesn't mean we need to be stupid, too.

    Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.

  • I did like what Valenti was talking about with Appling. If he can turn it and become a pg then thats the best possible outcome. If not I would love to see.

    1 - Trice, Appling, Valentine
    2 - Harris, Appling, Kearny
    3 - Dawson, Kearny/Byrd
    4 - Costello, Gauna
5 - Payne, Nix (I just don't see these guys going to the four spot)

    That isn't bad at all.

  • He took an unranked preseason team to a #1 seed and lost so much of what made that team great on the last game of the regular season, but fuck that clown! This program has fallen...hard!

  • Don't forget too that Mike once said that Izzo should go after one and done streetballers like Calipari does.

Doesn't make Mike's opinion wrong, then. If you except excuses for that flame out (travel, injuries, etc), then we're regressing as a fan base.

Valentie said it so it has to be true, right? Do you think for yourself or just like mikey tell you what to think?

  • Here is Izzo's tourney resume, it is nothing short of amazing. 98 - lost to UNC, they went to FF. 99 -01 - MSU made FF, 02 - lost to NC State, 03- lost to Texas who went to FF, 04-lost to Nevada, who beat #2 Gonzaga the next game, 05-MSU made FF, 06-lost to G Mason who went to FF, 07- lost to UNC who made FF, 08-lost to Memphis who made FF, 09 and 10 MSU made FF. 11- lost to UCLA, 12- Lost to Louisville who made FF.

So, in his 15 years MSU has made the tourney, he has 6 final fours. That leaves 9 years they have not gone to it. Out of those 9 years, the team that has knocked out MSU has gone to the final four 6 of those times. That leaves 3 out of 15 times that basically MSU just made the tourney, every other time they are going to the final 4, or you have to beat them to get there. You know how many times he has lost to a lower seed? ( I don't count losing in Final 4 losing to a lower seed because you get that far, all things are equal.) 3 times in 15 years. Nevada, George Mason and Louisville this year. Obviously 2 of those times, those teams went on to FF and weren't a one game wonder. I will put that up against anyone and feel confident it more than measures up.

Love these guys who pander to their market and aren't clever enough to generate their own interest in the show. Is anyone saying there are ecstatic with losing to Louisville? No, but put things in perspective.

Remember, this is the idiot who said 2 years ago he doesn't have it anymore, or we have regressed or whatever crap it was.

In the 3 games before Dawson got hurt, he had 7 pts 2 rebs @ Minn, 6 pts 1 reb vs Neb and 3 pts 2 rebs @ Ind.

In his last 3 full games he played, he averaged 5.3 pts and 1.6 rebs a game. Just because he had a few great games throughout the year doesn't mean he was becoming a double double guy.

  • Easy to rip the results, what would Mike have done differently.

Some how create more than one guard who can handle ball pressure, make Payne play every game great instead of 1 out of every 3 or 4, not have Draymond try too hard when everyone else is struggling.

This team laid eggs every ten games or so, it simply happened at a bad time.

Louisville is pretty damn good. This team was very vulnerable, and it was obvious unless you are a delusional homer or a slave to seeding. Let's say we stick to seeding, and we were the worst 1 and they were the best 4.

Would you be that shocked if the #13 team beat the #4 team on a neutral court? We played like total ass, it's one game.

It's almost like he's trying to generate bullshit discussion.

Where the hell were you to back me up when I started this thread?

Mike sez: Move Appling to the 2, which is more natural for him. If all Keith has to do is shoot, drive, slash, etc., he's a much better player and we're a much better team.

And he's right. As good a coach that Izzo is, not even he can make a PG out of Keith, and it showed up in that last game. The team had no direction from that position and having Day Day be a point forward was the true sign of desperation.

QFT. I'm listening, and you're absolutely right.

  • I'm not surprised.... I think Izzo was outcoached but also you have to count for Dawson being out. I think this game showed missing Dawson was vital to the loss.

  • You guys are incredible. Read the game threads and State is the most pathetic team around. Then one of the few people that actually have favorable things to say to state without chucking to themselves gives an similar opinion you want to trash the guy. He never said fire Izzo or whatever, just held him accountable. Said it was a nice season that ended with disappointment. Meh, not too shocking from him.

Plus while his whole "fallen hard" thing was over the top, before the B1G in 09 what did you really think about the state of the team. Hindsight is always 20/20, what if the team did not break through and was playing like 02-08. No banners, lets throw in a nice run to Detroit but get beat by UConn. What would your perspective be of the program. That was the point of his thread; unless things improve, what is the reality of MSU Bball? It was not a prediction of future failure.
