Vikings stadium being debated.

  • tJYD said...

Wherever you heard that from doesn't know jack.

How it is being reported here is that the money from naming rights would go toward the stadium funding, no cost to the Wilfs or the NFL, just money they cannot pocket.

As I said earlier the house will pass a bill and the senate will pass a bill once they both are passed things will be taken out, I bet this gets modified out or reduced.

That is only the stadium rights amendment. There is another amendment that forces the Vikes to pay $105 million more then what they said they would paid. Again, if that shows up in the final bill, Vikes are Los Angles bound.

  • The Vikings would have to put in $105 million more than in the package that was negotiated by the governor, key lawmakers, the Minneapolis mayor and the team. The Vikings would also have to share proceeds from naming rights for the stadium with the state and city of Minneapolis.

The dealbreaker is the FIRST sentence.

Where are you getting this "fact" about them leaving from? The link says a) under this version the queens would have to pay 105mm more, and b) if a deal doesn't get done they will most likely leave. It does NOT say that if the $105mm is in there they are leaving for LA.

You seem to be one those people who extrapolates things on your own and presents them as fact, which they most often are not.

    Chitown_Badger

  • That money is coming from the naming rights, money they dont have to spend but cannot put it in their pockets.

Then you're saying the section of the Yahoo article JYD quoted is incorrect?

    Can you read?

So, the Vikes will be suckered into paying 105 Million MORE then what they agreed to? Really? Do you really think they would do that?

You said it was a done deal if that stays in there. That is what you are ASSUMING, yet you present it as fact. You are misleading in your posts.

I have no idea if the vikes would pay it. And if it was in fact a FACT that the vikes would leave if that stays in there, then why they hell would they even keep talking about it into the night...because it would be pointless as the queens would already be LA bound.

They are making the naming rights money goto the stadium rather then the Wilfs.

Because politicians are morons who are trying to save their tails for re-election, and nothing more. If the Vikes back out of the deal, they can blame the Vikes and not themselves because they can say they did pass a bill.

  • Its just how they are reporting it, no where in the Yahoo article did it say anything on naming rights where the money is coming from.

You're flat out wrong. See the post by Spartyon82 on the prior page and compare it with the amendments you linked. The amendment is taking down the state's maximum contribution by 105 million (from 398 mill to 293 mill). The Vikes' contribution is going from 427 mill to 532 mill to offset that. Then, per your attached amendment, the shares of each (state, local and team) are going to be reduced proportionately by the naming rights fees. This does not change the fact that the Vikes will be paying much more than they agreed to pay. The Vikes thought they would be paying 427 mill and then pocketing some naming rights money to reduce that further. Now the starting point before reduction is 532 mill. If you can't see that the state has pushed 105 mill from their burden (398 to 293) and moved that burden directly to the team, then there's just no helping you.

Also, your argument that they're not having to spend more out of pocket, they're just not getting as much from naming rights, is not only factually incorrect, it's also a ridiculous statement. If you commit to build an in-ground pool expecting to use your bonus money to pay for most of it and then your boss takes away your bonus, you're going to have to use more of your on-hand money to pay for the pool than you planned.

  • Can someone, primarily the OP, please explain why you are so sure the Vikings will end up in LA? The ownership has never made this threat. They haven't moved in the last 10 years of stadium debate, why would they suddenly leave a passionate football town for a city that has failed to support it's last 2 teams now?

Don't think -- it can only hurt the ballclub

Seriously. I would NEVER move a sports team to LA. Even if your team is good, you're not filling up seats.

  • The Gopher's new stadium is really, really nice. It was really retarded not to have them build a stadium for both teams to play in. Minneapolis is going to have 2 football stadiums, that seat >60k, built within 5 years of each other. It even dumber than putting two bridge crossings from Detroit to Canada 50 yards from each other

Minnesota wanted to be right on campus. And their stadium is under sixty.

  • I have a hard time believing that they would move a very storied franchise like the Vikings over 105 mil.

The nfl should pitch some money in if that is the case. That would be a huge black eye to the nfl similar to the browns moving to Baltimore.

It is not like the oilers or a team who doesn't have a lot of history or fan support. Minnesota Needs to find a way to get something done.

They will have no problem filling up this state of the art stadium. LA is hungry for football.

its as if someone challenged the designers of that stadium: make the fans as FAR away from the sidelines as possible; in fact, make it feel like its actually a basball stadium with a football field in the middle!

That's because every summer teams like Real Madrid will play pre-season games against the LA Galaxy. Would also expect it to be a potential site for USMNT games, and host the final for a hypothetical FIFA World Cup. To me it doesn't look like the seats are any furthers away than what is in the New Cowboys Stadium.

  • Bill passes in Senate by 5 votes, however the big hurdle of the team contributing an extra 105 million more then agreed on is still worrisome.
