So obviously you guys just hate rap music. She has done some good features on Kanye and Ludacris tracks and can tear up the mic. Most you guys are just still rocking Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin and wouldn't know music if it hit you in the face. I don't love her stuff, heck not even sure I like it, but try to have a little bit more of an open mind.

All were being "hyped" before they put out albums. Reason is that you have to put out at least 3 mixtapes before anyone will really listen to you. You have to rise to the top of the underground scene before you can put out an album. MTV wasn't the only one hyping Nicki. XXL, BET, many others were hyping her as well.
Additionally, Nicki, after being signed by Young Money, she did a lot of features. That really built her rep up quickly to the mainstream. When you're on singles with Ludacris, Usher, and Trey Songz, you build up your rep quickly. She was also on Thank Me Later, which was the 2nd biggest rap album of 2010. Basically, everyone knew who she was already.
