Wale (the famous rapper) at the MSU basketball practice

  • vitocorleone said...

Again...what world do you live in where having your album DEBUT at no. 2 on billboard does not qualify you as famous?

It didn't reach Billboard no.2..it debuted there. Meaning he had to be famous enough to have that many people buy his album the first day it was out.

Popular. Famous people are household names. If you need to explain who he is to the average person, he isn't famous yet.

Obviously these are just disagreements on where the cutoff is. I reserve "famous" for the superstar folks, where many might refer to all stars.

More famous than Page and his sandiwches biggrin

lol probably the most annoying joke on that board

Spartan Hoops, I think the music, like almost all top 40 music, is reprehensible, talentless garbage, but being #2 on Billboard does make him famous.

People who need to be introduced with a (famous rapper) to clarify who they are typically are not famous. Popular, successful, probably. But not famous.

    Yep.

  • Famous or not, Wale is probably the most popular artist among MSU athletes. Pretty cool for them if he shows up at practice.

  • it is cool that famous people take the time to be around the team. yes.

    nothing wrong with that.

as long as there are no bags of money being exchanged, of course lol

  • Very cool. And also good for team atmosphere. I think things like this can really help loosen thigns up after a huge weekend and OSU coming up. Also, I got to think it offers something for recruits to find really cool. I doubt IZZO thought like this but it is kind of true. Like it or not, kids are impressed by things like this.

But as far as famous or not, if you don't know who wale is that is fine. However, do you not know him because you have never heard of him or do you not know of him because you don't care to hear anything from him? I personally don't think he is famous...popular yes very...famous not so much. He still has a long way to be that.

Why must you bring your elitist opinions into every thread that happens to a mention a rapper you don't care for?

i could say the same thing about a lot of people and a lot of subjects they don't care about.

calm down. people have a right to their opinions.

Spartzilla, I didn't know this guy because I hadn't heard of him.

This is spot on. For a guy I've never heard of to debut at number 2 speaks to the fact that he's probably really really good at what he does. If he was famous he could do the same thing and suck. My definition of famous is when even my mom has heard of you.

If you're saying he's been coasting, he's still a lot better than Wale.

I've never seen a single MSU player quote anything by Jay Z on twitter.

Le'Veon, Worthy, Dennard, Draymond, Dawson, etc. are constantly quoting Wale and tagging #AMBITION. I honestly think they'd rather have Wale than Jay Z.

  • Better a Wale then any situation....

If I was posting on a predominantly African American and/or young forum, I wouldn't need the parentheses. But the average RCMBer is a middle-aged white dude.

Just because you don't know him, doesn't mean he's not famous. His album debuted at #2... that should tell you something about how well-known he is.

But they did have a pretty awesome moment with that Black People in France song.

On the contrary, I'd say that right now the average RCMBer is a 18-22 year old white kid. lol

Yes, but people aren't broad, mass culture, legitimately famous until the old white mass media people come around and realize they can profit off of them few months later. This is, again under my definition of famous.

That's cool and all, and he may be famous among rap fans, but he certainly hasn't transcended that. He's a rapper that rap fans might have heard of but let's be honest, he's not a household name like Jay-Z, P. Diddy, or Kanye. Nothing wrong with that though.
