It's not confirmed yet. Mathematically, they would have some s'plaining to do...
Every few years some scientist makes an outrageous claim that's debunked, a few years ago some scientists from Stanford(?) said they got lasers to travel faster than light...it was a hoax.

So to recap,
-As of August it's suspected that the Higgs Boson may not actually exist, rendering the Standard Model incorrect
-The theory of relativity, which the standard model has conflicts with, may also have to be revisited due to apparent faster-than-light particle experiments
Glad I didn't choose to major in physics the last 4 years. It might turn out that I would've learned pretty much nothing.

I have a hard time understanding the popular glee and schadenfreude when a story like this breaks. A (potential) revision to a current theory does absolutely nothing to verify the unsubstantiated beliefs of tin foil hats, and hell, scientists LIKE being wrong.

I always knew it was BS that nothing that can go faster than light. The subatomic world is WAY too capricious and interesting to abide by any human-created rules like speed limits of the universe. But let's just hope that it was the particle actually going faster than light, and not tSPoL getting faster, because the next nuclear test will be verrrrry interesting if that's the case...(bye-bye solar system)
If they aren't making any errors here, this is WORLD-CHANGING. Seriously, why isn't this bigger news? The doors of time travel just SWUNG THE FUCK OPEN. JESUS. This is why I love Western society. Shit like this is just awesome. Who knows, maybe entropy IS reversible?

Scientists aren't sure if the theory of relativity is wrong or if protons decay but one thing they know for sure is that global warming exists and is caused by people. At least something is settled.
