Watching storage wars has taught me something

  • Everything is acknowledged as a cash sale and these things go for like 7K

So, my theory is go to the auction, wait for someone to buy nothing, follow him home and Rob his ass

Easy score. Am I missing something here??

  • Why wait for 'em to get home?

  • I thought the same thing too. It seems they would need security at the auctions as well (not sure if they do or don't) but seems like someone could go to the auction and just hold everyone up (20/30 people = 50/75K).

  • I have also learned redneck business math.

Profit is calculated as total value minus total locker bid cost...they don't bother with the labor and overhead nonsense.

What labor? Putting the shit in your pick-up truck? Plus, all the main guys on the show have their own stores. Who knows how much A&E pays them already.

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

    The redneck math is hilarious.

That's 300 over there (Meanwhile I just bought a new one for 150) but whatever. Especially the Dave guy from the LA shows. He is so gorilla math

My problem is many times the "profit" is what they say it is worth. That table is worth 250, that couch 300, that old tv can get 20... BS. Maybe things are different in Calif, but I dont see a market for 200$ used refergerators.

I like the way Auction Hunters does it, shows the actual selling of items.

LOL. Dave is the best. Some random starving artist stuff, "this is oil painting, I can get at least 300 each." Medium quality dining set "those table and chairs, 600 easy." These DVDs, 5 bucks.

My favorite was when he bought a ton of papers from when Elvis died. Had thousands of them. Some guy gave him a price of like 5 for one and 20 for another. I would love to see how many actually sold and for how much.

My point exactly. Guy is just nuts with prices

I love Barry. Dude takes a bath on everything or keeps it. Plus he's hilarious

You'd be surprised what you can sell second hand stuff for. I just sold a 20 year old fridge that came with my house for $50, got $100 for the gas stove of same age, and $250 for a beat up sleeper sofa and love seat that had been peed on by dogs I don't know how many times. Craigslist is awesome lol.

Usually, it's the lower income people that will buy stuff like that because the new products in stores are simply at a price they can't afford. Take TVs for instance. A decent sized TV nowadays is not cheap when bought brand new. That's why you can end up getting $150-200 for an old tube TV if it has any size to it.

Refrigerators are even better because new fridges of any common size will still run you $500 or so brand new. So you can sell your old one for half that in about an hour on craigslist because it's a necessity some people simply can't afford to buy new.

Still though, Dave is pretty bad when it comes to putting values on things he finds.

  • Am I the only one who thinks Brandi is kind of homely/skanky? (There may have been a thread on this once upon a time, but I don't care, dbag tSF nazis).

  • I will never understand these shows.

If I owned a storage place and somebody stiffed me for rent, what's to stop me from going into these units, seeing what's there and simply craiglisting it myself?

  • People losing their posessions because of a lousy economy for years is a sad thing. Not really a good topic for so-called reality shows. I think it is reprehesible to profit off of the misfortune of others. That's just me so flame away.

They do have security at the auctions. You just don't see them on this show.

This isn't a new phenomenon because of economy. These guys have been doing it for years. Just the show is new idea.

Love the show - love Barry - Dave is an a**hole.
