"We didn't play Michigan football"

  • Scum was so bad they made MSU look bad.

Some reporter needs to step up and challenge this BS response.

The follow up question should always be:" Well Denard, exactly WHY didn't you play Michigan Football today?"

    Drew Sharp actually tried:

'“We just didn’t come out fast enough,” said receiver Jeremy Gallon. “We didn’t play Michigan football.”

That was his story and he stuck to it. When asked how Michigan couldn’t come out “fast enough” knowing how good Alabama was, Gallon shrugged his shoulders with no further explanation. '

Seems anytime umaa loses its because they don't come to play and/or they don't play "Michigan football". With few exceptions they can't bring themselves to say the opponent played better.

Kovacs is an exception. When they get their butts kicked he just says it. Robinson believes his own hype and will never admit another team was better.

Well what do you expect, they only had 8 months to prepare for the game.

Er...okay. So what you REALLY want Denard to say is:

"I made a lot of mistakes, and I didn't play the type of game I really wanted to.

Boom, just end it there. Or add "I've been coached better, I need to become better"

"WE didnt play Michigan football" throws his team mates under the bus too. Perhaps he's correct, but he's not a leader. Why is it, after losses we need to hear anything but the above. Why do we know he had some type of staff infection after the loss to us last year? We didn't know Fitz wasnt playing till game time yet injuries are leaked out AFTER a loss. Why can't you guys see it's not just MSU but the rest of the BIG is sick of michigan always talking about the crowned fields, the bad refs, the cheating time keepers, the we deserved better and the best... "we don't make excuses, but..."

You got beat by a better team. Much better. You are years away from being able to compete with them. Just go away

    sprtnbrn

  • I just have never understood why it is that hard to admit sometimes you get beat by a better team. It is just my opinion but it sounds silly to say well we didn't play Michigan football. No. Really?!? There's a reason you couldn't run, barely pass and Bama ran at will. They are just a much better football team. Why is it that hard to be honest about it?

"They had a great team. I give them credit, but we didn't come to play ball today. You guys could see that we didn't come to play ball today, and we've got to bounce back from it." -- Denard post-game

"I don't think there was any distraction. We just didn't come out here and execute. They played well. They had a great game plan. They pounded the ball. Like I said, we just had too many missed tackles." -- Kovacs post-game

"They're a good team. We just didn't play Michigan football. We didn't start fast or finish fast." -- Gallon post-game

Am I missing something here? Seems like they're all tipping their hat to 'Bama. I can understand why someone could infer that they're blaming the loss primarily on their lack of execution, but...

Let's compare it to something more tangible: does the guy that places last in the 100m final need to say "Usain Bolt is stronger, faster, and better than me." No, because that guy could go and edge out Bolt in the next race -- it all comes down to execution at the time of competition. Every athlete has enough fight to know that they're always in the game, but the mistakes pile up.

Michimoby, can you explain what, exactly, is "Michigan Football"? This is the part that really bothers me. It just reeks of arrogance and smugness. As if they have their own brand of football, and that despite anything about the other teams performance or talent level, that the reason they lost was simply that they didn't play "Michigan Football". If you notice, for everyone one of your quotes above, the "praise" they give the other team is always followed with a "but................."

  • Sharp had some other gems:

'Michigan got outclassed and clearly don’t belong on the same field as the Crimson Tide. Heck, you could argue that Michigan didn’t belong in the same state as the Crimson Tide. And this game was played in Texas.'

  • On top of "Michigan Football" it was "we're 2 or 3 years away from competing with Bama." Why do they think they'll compete with Bama in 2 or 3 years? It's just an end around way of blaming Rich Rod for this loss and that Hoke now is getting better recruits or something. I've got news for you, the result of that game last night was not about recruiting, it was about developing talent with superior coaching and superior schemes.

Well, when they talk about recruiting, someone can remind them that Alabama outrecruits them too. So if recruiting rankings are predictors of on-field success, they'll never be where Alabama is.

  • Doesn't anyone demand accountability from Brady Hoke. Twice Michigan has gotten embarrassed , against MSU and Bama, and twice Michigan didn't play Michigan football. They weren't prepared to play huge games and were routed. That's on the BTCOY. But as long as he calls OSU "Ohio" he gets a pass from those that ran Rich Rod out of town.

when Michigan fans say that the proper response is: "What makes you think Alabama regresses THAT SIGNIFICANTLY?"

  • After their next loss I would really like for the first question at that post game press conference to be: Brady, do you feel that your team played "Michigan Football" today?

That's what Michigan players, coaches, and fans don't get. Saying "we didn't play Michigan Football" is an insult to the team that just beat you. As if your team just had an off day. It's the epitome of being a poor loser and is totally classless.

That's why Michigan and their fans are the most hated in college sports.

I'm pretty confident that Ohio State fans and their roving band of rioters take the cake on that one.

To answer a previous poster's question: I honestly don't know what "Michigan Football" is. Maybe it's a motivational tool they use in Schembechler Hall to pump up the kids. All I know is that last night looked like an old-fashioned woodhouse beating, from my eyes. That's likely more to do with Alabama playing a well-rounded and solid game rather than Michigan's mistakes, although in the college game, the best teams out there know exactly how to capitalize on them. Saban's crew knows how to do it amongst the best of the bunch.

I'm also loyal to my alma mater, however, and to suggest that Michigan is suddenly inept, irrelevant, and useless would be not only betrayal, but fairly untrue. Y'all stuck through the Bobby Williams years and hoped JLS would bring back the Daugherty days, but by no means were you *ever* irrelevant. You're still in the Big Ten, competing day in and day out, and random kids across the country are still wearing TJ Duckett jerseys. That, in itself, defines relevance. Winning a BCS game, or the Big Ten Championship, defines relevance. And at this point, both programs have done it.

So Denard doesn't say what you want him to say -- that's his problem, not yours, and if he aspires to become a professional athlete, the scouts will ding him for it.

It's likely because Hoke's teams haven't also gotten embarrassed by Toledo, like RichRod did.

They did play Michigan football to a "T." Michigan football is beating up on the little guys and folding against real competition. What was Bo Schembechler's Rose Bowl record? 1-8--they can't play real competition.

    THAT'S Michigan football.

The whole program is propped up at this point by the marketing illusion of brand. If you admit that your football sucks; well the brand tarnishes and whole house of cards falls to the ground like an armpunt bouncing off of the Jerry World scoreboard.

You have to give the folks in Ann Arbor credit they have won a butt load of games to earn the right to brand themselves. The problem is that over the past decade they have increasingly relied on the past accomplishments and have been coasting more than builidng. Their risk is that they have to show off for Q-ratings to keep things propelling forward. They're selling a million dollar looking home built on a crap foundation. You have to keep talking up fine paintings on the wall and the jacuzzi hot tub with the butler while trying to distract the buyer from looking in the basement. Alabama took the nation last night into the basement with a flashlight and showed the crack.
