UM's best chance to win the B1G -- and by a wide margin -- was this year. But whenever UM plays a decent team, or plays on the road, it chokes. You know this is true. OSU will continue to dominate UM, and UM doesn't get to beat up on John L. or Bobby Williams anymore.
And maybe worthy of its own thread, is the myth UM fans perpetuate about how Rich Rod "destroyed" the program. Certainly, he was a better offensive coach than anyone currently at UM. And his recruiting was excellent. Here's a trip down memory lane of how Rich Rod "destroyed" UM:
- Elliot Mealer: 4* recruit - Brandon Smith: 4* - Brandon Moore: 4* - Dann O’Neill: 4* - Kevin Koger: 4* - Roy Roundtree: 4* - Mike Martin: 4* - Ricky Barnum: 4*
And that's just his first year....the next year he "destroyed" UM with garbage like
- William Campbell: 5* - Taylor Lewan: 4*/5* - Je’Ron Stokes: 4* - Craig Roh: 4* - Jeremy Gallon: 4* (remember, small WRs hurt a team...just ask South Carolina) - Quinton Washington:4* - UM's greatest offensive player of all time - Denard Robinson: 4*
Then Rich Rod completely nuked your program, by insulting it with guys like Devin Gardner: 4*(the guy UM is now in love with) and Richard Ash: yet another 4* D guy.
All years but one, Rich Rod has a top-ten rated recruiting class. And we know UM fans love them some rankings between the months of February and September. And 4 star recruits are a guarantee that the future is bright -- I mean, look at that star glitter above. I feel like Carl Sagan looking at that stuff.
3* hacks like Jake Ryan, JT Floyd, Jibreel Black -- again, all Rich Rod program wreckers -- should never have been offered. I'd try to go one, but its hard to find more three stars among all the 4 stars.
So...I'm absolutely positive UM's current 4* recruits are better than the past 4* recruits, and the zero-sum game of recruiting must result in MSU having less. I know that line makes UM fans feel good.
One-half of a championship since WWII says it all. I know you guys compiled big stats at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, and resided at or near the top of the B1G ten for a long time (then Bo would fall on his face as soon as he played outside the conference).
MSU had a bad year, and I readily admit it. But we did beat the SEC East champ last year.

Fair points... Mattison much >>>>> Greg Robinson. And system fit, development, all that....is key I agree. Star gazing, however, is the wrong activity for UM fans hoping that 2016 -- or whenever UM is supposed to be "back." Because its pretty starry back in the Rich Rod era too.
hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.

Oh, back to the point of MSU getting guys to the League, MSU is going to have a DB drafted in each of the last 4 drafts, assuming Adams gets picked
'10 draft - Ware (Oakland)
'11 draft - CLR (Indy)
'12 draft - Robinson (49ers)
'13 draft - Adams (???)
I'd assume Dennard and Lewis stand a great chance at getting drafted in '14, and Drummond could be the next in line after that. Amazing that State had horrible DBs for about a decade.

Eric Smith is still hangin' in there getting solid minutes with the Jets as well at Safety. I forgot, was he drafted or did he do what he did at MSU and try out and become a contributor? At any rate, he's another product of our Secondary from that 09' season, maybe 08'. It's been awhile.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
