Wendy's Changes Burger

  • Changes:

-switched from white onions to red
-changed patty to a "natural square" with wavy edges because tasters said the straight edges looked processed
-thicker burger (trained cooks to press down on the patties two times instead of eight)
-warmer and crunchier buns (buttered and then toasted them)
    -switched to whole-fat mayonnaise
    -nixed the mustard
-cut down on the pickles and onions
-stored the cheese at higher temperatures so it would melt better

none of those sound like improvements, at least from a "trying to not instantly give you a heart attack" standpoint

  • I wasn't aware there were other sandwiches at Wendy's other than the Spicy Chicken.

Also, while I think the Spicy Chicken sandwich from Wendy's is great, the Spicy Chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A is the best.

Since they don't squeeze all the juice out by flattening it repeatedly, I suspect you are mistaking juicy for greasy. They didn't change the meat so there isn't anymore grease (fat) but they are just cooking it in a more normal fashion. I for one don't squash all the juice out of a burger when I cook one, and I suspect the new method will deliver a more flavorful burger. Frankly, while I like Wendy's burgers, I did find them a bit dry.

nerd <-----I think you needed one of these

  • As a result of this thread, I am going to go to Wendy's and try out this new Big 'n Juicy. I haven't had a Wendy's hamburger in about 6 months (I usually get their BLT salad). I will report back shortly. 10-12

Agreed. I'd rather they remove the ketchup than the mustard.

  • so I had this for lunch, and I'm still wondering if they actually changed it yet, or not? Has Wendy's always put a slice of cheese on the bottom of the bun, and one in the middle? That's the only thing I could notice that was different.

I don't think I have ever had a burger at Wendy's. Always got the #6 spicy chicken

Yes, that spicy chicken is awesome. And from what I've read actually one of the healthier options for chicken sandwiches out there, even though it is fried. Yum.

  • I tried it out, it was good. I at the end of scarfing it down I thought to myself "this is one of the better fast-food burgers."

    I give it: thumbsup thumbsup

  • Other than the beef being thicker, I didn't notice much change. The bun was toasted and buttered, but I didn't feel like it enhanced or even contributed to the flavour profile. I'm glad they brought back the 2nd slice of cheese on the double. They used to give you two slices, then about 5 or 6 years ago the scaled back to one.

The lack of mustard was more of a drawback than I anticipated. The overall sweetness of the Wendy's product needs a little bite to even it out. The lack of mustard was a disappointment--more so than I expected.

The biggest change that stood out to me during the experience--WHITE NAPKINS!? WTF is this world coming to? It just didn't feel right not having a yellow napkin. It's almost as devastating as the day they took out the old fashioned newsprint table tops.

did they still serve your burger in the same foil wrapper? Or was it in the wax paper like in the article?

It was in foil, but improperly labeled as 'Applewood Smoked Bacon'

  • I'm getting on my soap box, please hold.

    (ahem)
The lack of customer service and customer appreciation are why I never, ever eat at mega chains. Call me crazy but when I spend money, I like to be appreciated, greeted with a hello, and thanked for my purchase. Companies fail to do this all the time and wonder why they lose market share etc. McDonalds, BK, Wendys, Olive Garden, etc. should all be ashamed for what they pass along as food let alone hospitality.

I would rather spend more money and drive out of my way knowing that I am getting a better product and better service. I am one man but that is my stance.
