What can Spartans say that WONT cause OUTRAGE!!! from uofm fans?

  • It's truly remarkable. In the past year alone:

-Dantonio, while never supporting or defending Tressel's actions, calls Tressel a "tragic hero." Wolverine Response: INDIGNATION! OUTRAGE!!! HOW DARE HE COMPARE THE CHEATER TRESSEL TO OUR 9/11 FIREFIGHTERS!!!

-Gholston commits two stupid personal fouls in the uofm game. The refs spot the penalties both times and he is flagged appropriately. The penalties help uofm immensely as their stagnant offense gets free yards and their drives are taken off life support. Wolverine Response: ATTEMPT OF MURDER! CHEATERS!! RAAAAGE!!! SUSPEND HIM FOR THE SEASON!!!!

-A uofm assistant tries to turn a short introduction speech into a long uofm recruiting pitch. Dantonio cuts him off. Wolverine Response: THE NERVE! HOW DARE THAT SCUMBAG!! ABSOLUTELY CLASSLESS AND PATHETIC!!!! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!

-Mark Hollis tweets some harmless yet sage advice to Trey Burke, who has been publicly discussing the troubles of his current circumstance. Wolverine Resposne: NCAA VIOLATIONS!!! STOP PUSHING OUR PLAYERS TO THE NBA!! BRANDON TO THE RESCUE!!!upsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupsetupset

Have you ever seen a group get their collective panties in a bunch so much over so little? It's a sight to behold. Next they'll be furious because Tom Izzo eats his hard boiled eggs from the big end first and not the little end.

I have to admit...this amuses me. The more wound up they get the more I chuckle. But perhaps you have a uofm family member or inlaw and you are forced to spend time with them on the holidays. Sports are bound to come up in conversation and you don't want them going into a hulk-like rage and ruining everyone's Easter dinner. So what things can you say that WONT get the crocodile tears flowing?

  • I have UM family members. The only real way to avoid whining is to do just that-avoid the topic in its entirety. That's it. It's difficult at first, but you get used to it.

    Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.

  • I was thinking of starting a thread like this.

The worst part is that their insane rants get eaten up by media outlets. The PR machine at Michigan has always been on full tilt. When you think about it, the only thing that makes Michigan so great is the fact that everyone believes them when they tell us they're awesome.

Most of them are low lifes who want to grasp on to something perceived as great to help ease the pain of being a loser (walvies). The rest of them are just asians and sexless nerds.

Exact same situation here -- except that I find it incredibly rewarding to avoid/side-step the topic.

For example, one family member calls to talk about the spartan tears sign.. I calmly feign ignorance and say I missed it because I was watching the MSU-Wisconsin basketball game (which is true -- I genuinely don't care enough about UM to watch their effing bowl game).. Anyway -- it upset him no end that I didn't even care to watch their bowl game. He was watching us play UGA, and hoping for us to lose right until the bitter end.

That's the thing about acting like you've been there before. Being loved is awesome. Being hated is still something. Being invisible really stings. You gotta learn to simply not notice them. Genuinely not giving a damn is a very powerful thing. In the meantime, they keep thinking of what to call Ohio, how low they can place MSU in their rivalry list, and other such irrelevant tripe.

It needs to be forwarded to the B1G office, the NCAA and the U.N.

  • Only the imbecilic UM fanbase would blow such an unimportant non-issue out of proportion. I was reading through the comments on the ESPN article about this and nearly every person who wasn't affiliated to either MSU or UM basically said that the issue was not newsworthy and wondered why Michigan fans were taking it so seriously. Also saw many support Hollis and his non-controversial advice to Burke and call out Dave Brandon for being a pretentious d-bag.

  • It's pretty entertaining. Mgoblog has been in full tilt for the last day and a half. It's just so strange.

I don't really know what to make of the situation. Maybe not having lived in the State of Michigan for the past few years is finally catching up to me. I just don't get them sometimes.

  • I think that Izzo, Hollis, and Dantonio have a running joke of pissing off the UM fanbase. I can imagine Hollis having this conversation with Coach D right before he tweeted Burke

H: "Hey Mark, check this out - I'm going to tweet that Burke kid and tell him to do what he thinks is best about going to the NBA. I bet those assholes in Ann Arbor get all worked up about it."

D: "You don't have the balls to do that. but I dare you."

H: "Dude, I'm totally going to do it. Look I wrote it already - check the screen."

D: "Then do it, hit send."

H: "Man this would really set them off. I bet pizza boy will get super pissed."

    D: "Hit send you pussy."

H: "Here it goes (giggling). I'm really going to hit send! (hits send)"

D: "I can't believe you actually tweeted that shit!"

    This, x 39 million.

They are, and have always been, master manipulators. And they beat us at manipulating- we get hung up complaining about U-M, as opposed to trumpeting MSU.

This validates their efforts, each and every time we complain/blog about U-M overcoverage or the "Blue Wall". Though the wall is real, the more we push the MSU agenda in an intelligent and masterful way, the more ground we will claim.

In short, let's see more MSU talk, less U-M.

Honestly, ignoring them would probably destroy them as a fanbase. They need us to help bolster themselves. Their egos demand it.

  • They are scared shitless. That's what this is really about

    jabroni

  • The umaa fanbase is legendary for their memory lapses. Never remember they went without a Big Ten Football Championship from 1951-1963. How could that happen. The decade plus is forgotten just like the rr years. Fab Five the same thing. What do you mean they cheated.

Those memory lapses lead to being jumpy about the damndest things.
