No way. DickRod was a total disaster at um-AA. Program went from 40 straight bowls to 3-9 and didn't recover until he was ousted. JLS got us to a bowl game and cleaned house. He wasn't a fit, but he wasn't the nuclear warhead to the program that was DickRod. We weren't GOOD when he got here. We didn't really go downhill. We just didn't improve on the persistent mediocrity.
Thank God for MD. What a difference.

I thought he was only going to be an interim coach? He would have to do extremely well to be made permanent.
I hope he does succeed. I doubt it though. The SEC is tougher than the B10 and he was not exactly a great recruiter. It worked okay at Louisville and Washington State and Idaho but don't think so in the SEC.

As some know I like JohnL...however I agree that he did not recuit Big Ten talent on D whatsoever...wheither that was due to behind the curtain negative recuiting by people at MSU who wanted their guy or whatever...he wasn't a good fit cause he didn't have a friend at MSU to protect him...and recuiting showed that...

If he had won he would've made lots of friends. He had one good year, a couple of decent offenses (that would utterly melt down a few times a year though) and putrid defenses. He had enough talent to win 8 games per year, poor coaching prevented it.

I agree on offense, defense no way. I don't remember ever feeling like we fielded a legitimate Big Ten back seven under JLS.

I always equated Saban to being like that Neighbor chick you've been friends with forever who was kind of awkward but had potential. You decide that because you just got out of a bad long relationship to take the long time friend to the Jr. Prom. Once she gets all dolled up for the dance she becomes attractive and ends up going home with the prom king.
