My one exception is if it's being shown by the airline's in-flight entertainment, it's fair game. I flew Air France last October and one of my selections was Bad Teacher. The plastic surgeon scene surprised me a bit, but since it was one of the selections on the TV, I got over it quickly.

Yeah, if it's on the in-flight entertainment, I think it's fair game. On a flight to Germany last year, the girl next to me was watching Vicky Christina Barcelona.
If it's your own device, it seems like it doesn't matter unless it's a iPad or other 10-inch tab, you're on the aisle, and you have it propped up so everyone can see it. In general, I generally can't tell what other people are watching unless I'm really making an effort. And if I am, then it's kind of my problem if I don't like what I see.
