What's with the seatbelt enforcement zones?

  • Just passed one a little while ago at 14 mile and John R in Troy.

Two cops in their dodge chargers busting people for seatbelt violations.

  • The only people who refute seatbelt laws, imo, are ones who have not been in an accident or ever seen a video of an adult body turned into a projectile. It will scare you straight. Take the two seconds and buckle it imo. It's really not a big deal and people can be flung like rag dolls through windshields.

  • its pretty simple. Our department gets federal grant money to do certain projects. One of the them is DL check lanes and Seatbelt enforcement zones. Its an easy way for the department to save some money on employee wages and the city gets some extra dollars for the general fund

They should rip up that grant money and glue it into a collage that says "Freedom" and send it back. That or be decapitated in front of their families. You know, whichever.

  • If you are worried about seatbelts, FINE, wear them. But don't bring your nattering busybody, pussification-of-america-incarnate ass into my life and FORCE me by the threat of death by cop to wear them. Hell, I wear seatbelts. But if I EVER see one of these checkpoints, I'm taking off my belt, getting a ticket, writing that cop a death threat, and taking it to the Supreme Court.

The badasses who founded this country like Thomas Paine, George Washington, and Ben Franklin would shit their pants if their beta-male descendants put up with this.

Not the point. The law's the law.

the point is not that it's the law the point is that the government has no right to tell you what to do until your actions put other people at risk. I personally always wear my seat belt and make everyone in my car do the same. But how am I at risk if someone else is not wearing their seat belt? I am not.

This is not about your safety it's about the money. Government was created to protect us from one another and not from ourselves, if you think otherwise I think I might just have a picture of you right here.

  • Duke Silver just gave me a boner. Saying "it's the law, so I have to do it" is probably the pussiest outlook on life imaginable. It was the 'law' to legally sell black children away from their mothers. It was the 'law' to force Japanese people into concentration camps in California, and not act out against said camps. It was the 'law' to bend over to Britain's stamp tax. It was the 'law' to stone a woman if she had premarital sex. It was the 'law' for German soldiers to systematically murder children.

oh you would have enjoyed our last project. our department, sheriff, highway patrol and state troopers all contributed 30 people to go out and get DUI's. we had an assistant district attorney and a judge at our station. so when anyone refused to do a breath test they would have an instant search warrant for blood draws. im afraid that could be the path we are headed

To this point, is it still the law that back seat passengers don't need to wear a seatbelt? I never understood that, because if there was ever a situation where an unbuckled person poses a danger to someone else, it's the projectile sitting in the back seat.

  • Is not wearing a seat belt a primary offense in MI? In Ohio I believe it is secondary and you can't be pulled over merely for not being belted.
I am always troubled by any attempt to legislate common sense (wearing a seat belt certainly is the smart thing to do), especially when, I'm sure, that while cops pull over cars in "enforcement zones" motorcyclists ride by without helmets, smoking a cigarette.
Keep telling yourself it's not about the money.no

In what world can you compare Nazis to seat belt laws? This guy is just begging to be heard. He NEEDS to have a voice in the world and be heard. He craves it so badly. I'm betting you're a Ron Paul man?

Oh iheart.. shhhhh.. it's ok. I just want to cradle you and tell you that things in life are ok.

Hey I think seat belts are a great invention and I use one willingly and voluntarily everyday but I just don't agree with them telling us how to live out lives when our activities don't put others at risk.
