What's with the seatbelt enforcement zones?

Usually the beer that spills out when I roll down the Windows is a dead giveaway.

if you refuse to do everything i have to prove you were drunk if it goes to court. If it goes to a DL hearing, i just have to prove i followed all of the steps to properly inform you of everything and then the license is forfeited to the state. sometimes i go into a case which everyone involved believes its air tight and the judge or arbitrator things otherwise. sometimes its the other way

I thought the judges were supposed to be an unbiased observer during criminal proceeding and not be in on it with the prosecution.

the judge is there to sign the search warrant for the blood draw. He or she is not determining the facts of the case, just assessing if their is probably cause to grant the search warrant. a lot of other cities in the US do this for all DUI's. I know one city that gives the on-call judge an IPad to digitally sign the search warrant before he can actually sign it on monday

An easy way to fight the injustices of legalized slavery would be to just watch slavemasters beat the slaves and ignore it.

    BAM.

People not using seat belts DOES affect other people negatively, by the way. Have you ever heard of MCCA? Maybe you should do a little research on your auto insurance policy.

I highly doubt the judge actually goes over all the facts in those situations, when he's out there with the cops waiting to sign warrants can you reasonably think that he might turn the cops down on one.

Just because alot of city's do it doesn't make it ok. By that logic you could say alot of people drive drunk so that makes it ok for someone else do it.

So I just drove through one of these things for the first time in a couple years. Luckily I was wearing my seatbelt(which I don't really do very often), but people were getting pulled over like crazy.

I wonder, why does the state have such a vested interest in making people wear seatbelts? Are these zones purely for adding money to police budgets in a typical "low" point?

Revenue enhancement. They continue to laugh at the suckers who bought the "seat belt usage will never be primary enforcement" BS years ago.

They are in no way comparable. None. And for you to think they are discredits any arguments, past or future, that you will make on this.

  • Fricking nanny state.

If you think seat belt laws are stupid, go to California where it's illegal to ride a bicycle without a helmet if you're under 18.

We, the people, pay for "their" roads. It's called taxes. And "their" roads are shitty.

  • It's a cash grab disguised as concern for our health plain & simple. I always wear my belt, out of habit mostly now, but if I don't why the hell should I then have to give the State of Michigan money. What's the fine for running with scissors in your hand or getting in the pool too quickly after eating. Insurance companies pushed this crap through and the helmet laws as well. Helmet laws were actually costing them money so that one's gone, but somehow people still believe this shit is at all based in safety and not revenue.

If you're going 25 mph and someone hits you going the other way going 25 mph you're sure as shit going to wish you were wearing a seatbelt. I just don't understand why anyone would not put one on, allergies to seat belt materials? I personally feel naked without a seatbelt on (plus I rarely wear pants when I drive).

  • I've told this story in other threads.

My father used to buy airbags for GM. When me or my brothers got our D/L's for the first time he brought home crash test tapes which he had access too. These weren't the ones they show on the news or in drivers ed...these were from the era before crash test dummies when GM used donated cadavers for thier tests.

Lets just say even a low speed collision can do a lot of permanent damage to a human body not tied down to the seat.

I don't care if you think that money or insurance premiums are the reason behind the law...seat belts do work. They are important safety devices that anyone who has even an once of care for their own well being will use every time.

Just wear them. Then you won't have to worry about the state grabbing money, it really is as simple as that. Who cares why the law exists...seatbelts serve their purpose and should be used every time.

And if you don't want to listen to me, just ask Will Gholston and LT what they think about them.

Dammit, one of the best posts here in awhile. I want to buy you something nice.

And one more thing, I understand the whole "it should be my choice when I'm in my vehicle" argument but when your body becomes a projectile than can leave your vehicle and kill someone else, you lose that choice.

I can't understand why anyone would have a vested interest in "not wearing a seatbelt"?

Because they are uncomfortable. For me, they are VERY uncomfortable. So much so, that I'm always adjusting and readjusting because the belt is uncomfortable.

I'd trade very uncomfortable for not being a projectile if someone runs into me any day.

No. It digs into my neck. When I wear a shirt with a collar, I can "tuck" the belt under the collar and I'm good. When I wear a t-shirt (which I do about 75% of the time), the belt rubs/digs into my neck. I have tried the adjustments, and there is no way around it. Having said all of the above, I wear a belt 100% of the time now. I say "now" because up until last April 2nd, I wore one about 30% of the time. Then, some jagoff forced me off of the I-275 doing 75 mph. After rolling over 10 times, I came to a stop - upside down in a swampy area. I unclicked my seatbelt, dropped to the ceiling, and crawled out my window and was waist deep in mud/water. Luckily, that day was one of the 30%. I would not be here if it was one of the 70% days I decided not to wear one. Here is what was left of my TrailBlazer:

    1. How is driving a privilege if anyone 16 years or older can do it?
    2. I do wear my seatbelt; doesn't mean it should be a mandatory rule when all they want is more money.

Not everyone over the age of 16 can do it...and it can be revoked if abused.

It's the second word, according to the agency responsible for licensing drivers.

SOS - Mandatory Driver License Suspensions and Revocations
