Why does it even matter who the ace is? Outside from an improbable scenario where Detroit has to decide between throwing Scherzer or JV out there in a do-or-die situation, there really is no validity to this argument. Detroit should just be glad that it has two pitchers the caliber of these two guys. If Porcello keeps it up, we're set up pretty well for the future (with Turner and Oliver waiting in the wings).

The two have nearly identical ERAs. Verlander has a WHIP of 0.98. I know that's not necessarily a measure of consistency, but he is 8 for 8 in quality starts. If a player gives you a quality start every time out, is there how can you not call him the ace?

Don't get into 'ace' arguments on the internet. By the definitions most people use to say Verlander isn't an ace, you might be able to find two ace pitchers in the league today.

JV is still the ace, no denying that, i just said Max has been a little more consistent.

No this doesn't deserve a bump!
At time time I made this thread Verlander was struggling and Scherzer was mowing people down indiscriminately.
Now Scherzer couldn't get my dead grandma out, and Verlander is the greatest pitcher on the face of the planet.
Different times entirely.
