When should I expect Don Kelly to be DFA'd?

  • Granted they're playing the Twins but Quentin Berry is a helluva lot better than Don Kelly.

Yes, basically Berry would be replacing Raburn's OF spot.

Crazy question is...if Berry/Dirks is still hot when AJax gets back, who becomes the 4th OF?

    And who leads off?

    1. Berry 9
    2. Dirks 7
    3. Cabrera 5
    4. Fielder 3
    5. Jackson 8
    6. Boesch DH
    7. Avila 2
    8. Peralta 6
    9, Santiago/Raburn 4

Young to bench as PH/4th OF/Occasional DH

Or does Leyland toy with the idea of moving MC back to 4th/Fielder 5th and bat Ajax 3rd?
    Santiago/Raburn IF
    Kelly UTIL
    Laird

    Is what I would do...thoughts!

  • Chris Pitaro looked awfully good after a weekend, too. I like Berry's energy a lot, though, and would guess he replaces Worth once Jackson returns.

If Berry stays hot I think they would probably platoon him with Young if Young continues to struggle, but I think Jackson still leads off.

    Jackson
    Dirks
    Miggy
    Fielder
    Boesch - DH
    Avila
    Peralta
    Raburn/Santiago
    Berry

I don't know, Berry has done a good job igniting the O early...He's def. played like a more traditional lead off guy.

I really can't see a situation where Jackson doesn't lead off. His obp has just been too good this year. Put Berry in the 9 hole while he's playing well so he doesn't have much pressure on him when A-Jax is back.

Plus we need his speed on this team. Besides Jackson this is a slow ass team. Need to keep him for late inning running if he doesn't start. That or even a defensive replacement for Young or Boesch. The kid can bring a lot to this team.

I'm just curious as to how many options Danny Worth has left. It seems to me like he has gotten sent down every other week for the past few years.

Once you excersise an option in a season, you can send a player up and down as many times as you want in that season.

  • Berry has speed and can cover CF. There is a reason this is his first time in an MLB uniform even if its for a cup of coffee.

If he keeps getting on base and fielding well its going to cause some soul searching. A late innings outfield consisting Dirks, Jackson and Berry would be better than replacing Boesch with Raburn.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. That rule has always confused me.

  • Berry's been great but Jackson was playing at an MVP level while leading off. He'll go right back to the top of the order. I like Berry in the 9 spot so that if he gets on, the top of the order is coming up. I think Worth probably gets sent down and Boesch gets most of the DH at bats. Delmon is the big loser in this.

    Buzzer Beater

  • At the very least I think we should keep Berry just for an extremely fast pinch runner in the later innings.

  • 1. Worth is not on the roster. He was only up while raburn was gone for 3 days.
    2. Kelly is awful but the only other 3b we have. But if he can play 2nd then get rid of raburn for berry.
    3. Like berry but I doubt he is an every day player. He was hitting .270 in Toledo. Perfect 5th outfielder/ pinch runner.
    4. If Kelly goes for berry then raburn must also go for worth so we have a back up at 3b. Can't see jimmy cutting both his darlings in one day.
    5. I see young being traded. He will be gone in August for v-mart anyway. Like berry and wish he could play 2nd.
    6. Could move a pitcher down til they decide but I doubt it. He most likely goes back down for Ajax.

**** hope he stays up or comes back quickly after they decide who goes.***** way better than Kelly or raburn.

Worth is still on the roster, at least according to every box score I see. He should get the boot when Jackson comes back.

Raburn took Jackson's spot on the roster. Worth is still on the roster.

You are right he is still on. Forgot about the move for Jackson. Kelly should go. Worth can play 3b, ss, and 2nd.

If they keep Berry then Worth will be the guy that gets dropped.

The difference in overall value that Kelly and Worth provide is minimal, and Worth can be sent to Toledo without going through waivers. That will be the deciding factor here. Kelly would have to go through waivers, and if he gets claimed the Tigers would be screwed if an infielder gets injured later in the year. After Worth (who would already be on the roster in this scenario), there isn't anybody in the minors that would be worth calling up.

When they send Kelly down, make sure Raburn is the one driving him to Toledo. You cannot have automatic outs in your lineup and win in the American League.

  • I am all for cutting Raburn or Kelly and keeping Berry. Berry might not be "the answer" so to speak, but he at least provides a little spark, a bit of speed and solid defense, which are three things the Tigers desperately need more of.

Young being traded is another option too. Really do not like his game.
