Who's down for some Bo Ryan bashing? Blocking Transfer Schools..

  • VargMan said...

None of the informed commentators disagreed with me. It is very well known that Martelli was in the right...the NCAA would have ruled in the player's favor, otherwise.

Only those that are mindless and prone to be manipulated to rush to judgment took the player's side.

roflmao That, sir, is trolling at its finest. My hat is off to you.

Yes, Bo is being an ass in this situation, but the bigger problem is the rule that allows this to happen in the first place. Coaches shouldn't be allowed to dictate where a player can and cannot transfer. Until that rule changes, you can expect to see more cases like this one.

a case like this is actually very rare and the player has more rights than you know. Yes, a coach can deny permission for a release to a school but the player has the right to an appeal hearing conducted by people outside of athletics and the overwhelming burden is on the school to establish why the denial should be upheld.

There are 2 grounds upon which a denial will be upheld: written policy (e.g. no intra-conference transfers) or evidence of tampering. Bo is going to need some serious evidence of that for any of these denials to be upheld.

  • okay... B1G schools I get
Marquette... biggest in-state rival... I get
All of the ACC.... okay with the challenge thats a stretch...

    iowa state... c'mon man!!!

he might as well just stop the kid going to any school in the upper half of a Big 6 conference for fear of meeting them in the NCAA tourny

Also, it's well known that Martelli was in the right and that player was a major dooshbag.

Not sure what's going on with the Wisconsin case, but that's what Bo gets for having a policy of only recruiting dooshbags.

    God you're dumb.

  • i didnt really follow that closely when lucious and the sherminator transferred, but did izzo restrict them at all? i read that the big ten wont allow transfers within the conference, but did he limit them other than that?

i know the bo ryan to izzo comparisons are belabored, but you don't really hear much about these kind of things till its straight up egregious

    603spartan

  • wow, we all knew Bo was scum but this just gets worse. Virginia hears the kid is transferring, calls to ask permission and Wisconsin denies and adds the ENTIRE ACC to the restricted list?? And, 2 days to appeal a transfer? There is no time limit in the NCAA bylaws - the school has 7 days to give the denial, in writing, and give the opportunity for an appeal but 2 days to appeal? They are fucking this kid big time.

  • Now Florida is on the banned list. It's almost as if any school that calls that asks for permission gets added to the banned list. Granted, the Vadgers play Florida in a home and home.

that actually is a legit reason for a denial, though usually the school has to have a written policy for it to hold up on appeal.

  • LMAO...Bo gets all pissed off because Uthoff goes and shops himself around after he gets bounced from the NCAA tournament. Bo is an asshole and Uthoff is a dooshbag...Bo deserves the ridicule that comes his way and Uthoff deserves the treatment Bo is giving him.

    This will indeed end well!!

  • Didn't Beilein have UMD, EMU and Oakland and the Big Ten plus a few more schools that are on umaa's schedule for Brundidge?

Why the ACC except for 1 ACC / Big Ten Challenge game. They do have Florida for a home and home but Iowa State?

Because those three schools are on the schedule for UM that's a legit reason for denial. Same with Big Ten. I know the rule used to be a transfer had to sit 2 years if they wanted aid, 1 if they didn't but I don't know if that is still the rule.

I have no issue with Florida since they are on the schedule. Apparently it's Iowa State due to "proximity." The ACC rationale is BS as well. Wisconsin could play any team over the next few years - "no, you can't go to Arkansas State, we might play them in the NCAA tournament or the Southern Mississippi Brett Favre Classic in 2015."

Bo is getting killed and rightfully so. This is showing the entire basketball community what a prick he really is.

Yep, beat me to it. They are giving this transfer mess more time than the NFL.

This thing has gotten legs and will not be going away like Ryan and Alavrez wish it would. So much so it wouldn't be surprising to see the UW Madison President get involved.

Now they have Bo Ryan on the air.

    GRR Spartan

  • Bo Ryan on air and coming off just as I'd expect Bo Ryan to. What an assbag. I hate him more than any coach in any sport in the country. He is playing it off that other coaches told him to do this.

I do not know much about this particular situation so I will leave that aside - although in general I'm usually a fan of Martelli.

What I do want to comment on is your last sentence. This statement is always your response to someone that disagrees with you. Is this a running joke or do you really think anyone that thinks otherwise has been manipulated by some outside influence? Seems a bit silly and played out to me. And yes I know, I've probably been manipulated to rush to judgment against you and your favorite online debating canard.

Not what he has said. Coaches have no presence in the appeal process.

He is using the appeal process to find out why. When MSU has had transfers Hollis and IZZO keep ahead of all this with the player, the family and probably they school he wants to go to after MSU.

If a coach didn't have at buyout for at least 30% of the remaining value of the contract if he's fired without cause, then he's a moran and terrible negotiator.
