Why I was motivated to assist in feeding the Izzone

  • I've been getting this question a lot today - "What made you do it?"

First off - I want to say that I played a very small role in this. Major props should go to the dozens of Spartans that contributed to this fund. And I want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone that contributed. But the massive ovation should go to the students as they bring an incredible intensity into the Jack Breslin Student Events Center once again tonight.

Current students should know that there are thousands of Spartans next to you in spirit every single time you set foot in the Breslin Center, Spartan Stadium, Munn Arena or any other field of play. We can't all be there for every game. For some of us, we are lucky to make one or two games a year. Sometimes it's less than that. But that doesn't change our passion. That doesn't extinguish the fire that burns in us.

I felt something watching the UM game that I haven't felt in a very long time. It was similar to when I watch (yet another) deep run in the tournament - but this was different. It took me some time to figure out what it was. Then it hit me - it was what I felt like when I was screaming my guts out in the Izzone. I was jumping around like an idiot last week after every put back. I'd pump my fist and go bonkers when a Spartan would set up for another three and.... swish. Just like I did 14 years ago.

Izzone, if you can bring that flood of memories back to me and give me that kind of feeling, I've got no problem doing whatever I can to assist you guys and keep the intensity up (not that you need it). Consider it a thank you gift. If there's one thing I can ask you - it's that you keep those green seaters up and involved. I can't say that even we did the best job of that. But I know you guys will bring it like nobody else can.

So thank you, Izzone. Now go get those Hoosiers.

  • After 2 games of the line getting food boy are they going to be a disappointed group for the next home game when nothing is delivered. On second thought it might be a good thing, they will be all pissed off and still make for a good game atmosphere inside the Breslin.
