Why do women have so many keys?

  • My car is in the shop today, so I took my wifes car to work. She gave me her keys this morning, and there are 12 keys, 2 fobs, and 10 of those plastic credit-card type thingys (Kroger Plus card, Dicks Score card, etc). I get to work and ask the secretary for the key to the supplies cabinet, she hands me her keys, and it's aven larger than my wifes. I have 3 keys on my key ring: my car, house dead bolt, and house door-knob key. What's the deal?

  • Uh oh, I'm a guilty dude. Car door. Car ignition (guess who isn't driving a new car). House door. House deadbolt. Parents house. Parents house deadbolt. Studio door. Studio deadbolt. Opeth bottle-opener. Metal guitar pick from Main Street Pizza circa 2002. Kroger card. Decade rosary. Vitamin World card. Random blue keychain that came with the house keys.

  • I try to keep it simple, but that's not always possible. Right now I have a carabiner with the car key/remote, bottle opener keyring, pet store card, gate access fob to my complex, house key, work desk keys, bike lock key, and two keys to rooms in my advisor's office area. I could probably keep some of that in my office, but it's easier to keep track of it all if it stays together.

It was worse when I was still at my last university: I had the car key, two apartment keys, and bike lock key, but also something on the order of 17 different keys for the access I needed to work on my thesis research. explode

  • I just have a car key, apartment and mailbox keys, gym card, and the MSU keychain they gave me at AOP with the fight song on it (circa 2005). Keep it simple.

I too still have my original MSU keychain with the fight song on it. Although tShadows and tFight Song is worn off. Good thing I know the words!

  • 3 apartment keys and my bike lock key are all that reside on my keyring. I hate having more than 4 or 5.

I notice the large keyrings of the hipsters that wear them on a clip outside their pants. I believe key ring padding is going on there, too...just like with the ladies.

  • Isn't it obvious? A very long time ago, some fashionable women somewhere in the world decided that she wanted to have a bunch of keys for some reason. A somewhat less fashionable woman saw her and copied her, eventually it spread to a TV show, and now women need to have a gigantic bundle of keys because everyone else does it, and if they're different at all their friends will talk about them behind their backs. Duh.

  • I have 2 keys - a car key I keep in the ignition so I don't lose it and a key to the office, which I keep in the car so I always know where it is. I'm sure someone gave me house key when I bought the place, but I lost it. Probably should've kept that in the car.

  • Men have a lot of keys too. Difference is, we don't keep them all in the same place.

I have a set of keys for everyday use, about 3-4, then a big ass key ring for all the other keys I need now and then.

I would do this under normal circumstances, but I have ADHD of epic proportions. I wouldn't use the overused adjective "epic" to describe my too frequently self-diagnosed "ADHD" if I didn't mean it. People can back me up in that.

Point being simply that I would find myself locked out of a lot of things.

Well, 99.9% of the time it's either parked in my garage 5 miles away from any city or it's at work parked literally 2 feet in front of my shop in the middle of a golf course. Neither place is exactly a high crime area, unless the horses living next door really want a old SUV. I have to keep an eye for those sneaky bastards.

  • I was recently told that I have a lot, but I don't really -- there's actually only 5 key-like things on there: house, storm door, car, car remote, and work key fob. But then I have a keychain that came with my car keys (Ford logo), MSUFCU football keychain, a little flashlight, my Planet Fitness card, and then the little keychain football schedules from the last two years. All on a carabiner I got from UAB at some point. I could probably clean it up...but where's the fun in that?

I had that same MSU key chain from when I went to AOP in 2002 up until a few months ago when it broke. That was a sad day cry

I have quite a few keys but they're all necessary: key for my car, key for wife's car, 4 keys for apartment (1 to get into the building, 1 to get into our apartment, 1 for mailbox, 1 for basement storage), keys to my parents house, and keys to wife's parents house.

I think this is the biggest factor. Men generally keep their keys in their pocket, so we have an incentive to keep it less bulky, women have purses they keep their whole life in, they could have a 100 keys in there and still have room for more; not as much motivation for them to remove old, or rarely used keys from the daily set.

I have 1 house key, 1 car key, 2 mini keys for metal lock boxes in my Jeep, 1 bike lock key (around my spare on the back), and my gym membership keycard. Everything else is used seldom enough, or not needed in case of on road emergency that I just keep them in a drawer at home.

Which begs the question, Why do women have so much shit in their purses? I cringe when my wife says to get something out of her purse. Won't do it - I'll just hand the purse over to her and let her dig in it.

The worst thing is when I'll ask something like where are her car keys and she'll say it's in her purse. OK, fine, where's your purse? Usual answer is the hell if she knowsfrustratedbanghead Why not leave it in the car like I do my stuff?
