Part of their dealership service department marketing plan. They go through their check list (brakes, fluids, tires battery, etc) so you feel all warm and fuzzy about how much they care. The other is so they can nail you down to make appointment(s) for the 30K/60K scheduled maintenance.
That's where they make their money. If you are a road warrior driving 30K-40K a year with a lot of highway miles you don't need that brake job as soon as Suzy Homemaker in her kid hauliing grocery getter. But that'snot going to stop them from convincing you to slavishly stay to their maintenance schedule.
I have never gone back to a dealership service department unless it was to replace a part due to an official recall. Just save your receipts from a qualified certified mechanic and your warranty is still valid.
