Will Burbridge Make The Cut?

  • Macks said...

Having watched Burbridge play in person, I think he could be an electric KR/PR in the vein of Tyrann Mathieu.

    Weird comparison

Burbridge is 3 inches taller and plays a different position than Mathieu

I was talking about KR/PR.....not whether he'd be a better DB (although he does play DB on Harrison). Burbridge is a bit taller but he is fast as hell and makes some ridiculous cuts without losing speed.

So he's the next Keshawn Martin?

I think he has the potential to end up being even better, from what I saw at least. Let's hope he gets his grades in order so we can find out.

I'm hoping that's the floor. Next Cunningham would be nice. Somebody needs to be the next Cunningham.

Burbridge has pretty reliable hands but he is way faster than Cunningham will ever be.

I'm just talking catches & yards, not measurables.

Yeah I hope so too then. Although if Burbridge lives up to his potential he might not even be here 4 years.

In the article, the Farmington Hills Harrison coach says he's the fastest player he's ever seen on the field. Dantonio is quoted saying he has "big-play ability in every aspect of his game" and that he is "expected to contribute immediately." His high school GPA doesn't carry over. He won't need to hit the books any harder than any other player on the team, and he will be an absolute weapon on the field this year if he does indeed qualify. No fucking chance he redshirts.

How can you say he won't have to hit the books harder than any other player on the team, especially those who breezed through high school? Doing well in classes at a Big Ten university has to be daunting as hell for someone who barely made it through basic high school courses. I wish all of our student athletes the best, but I think some people underestimate how hard the academics must be for some of them.

Because he's not Bobby Boucher or Mitch McGary. If he has an ACT score high enough to mostly make up for his low GPA he's obviously not stupid. He's been digging himself out of this hole since last year, but if he qualifies that's a fresh start.

while you are correct that redshirting him is nonsense - he's that good - saying he won't have to hit the books any harder than any other player is idiotic. I'm sure there are plenty of guys that needed more help than Cousins who clearly had above average intelligence and drive. Not everyone is smart enough to get by on their own...or has been given the tools in their socioeconomic surroundings to do so at the next level. Some people need help and have to work harder. it's called life. He'll definitely have to carry over the tremendous effort he's made to right the ship with his grades into college and stay focused if he wants to get on the field. But I think he will and our staff will make that possible by giving him the help he needs. It's why we have a tutoring center for both athletes and those peons that pay their own way.

A test score is one thing but the day to day grind of writing and organization skills required for college is a whole other world for someone that struggled in high school. Yes, the Clara Bell Smith Center will help immensely, but it still could be a challenge.

Hope you are kidding re: Kinesiology, this is one tough major at MSU, very close to pre-med and not even close to what you are inferring

you have got to be shitting me.

which of the kin courses compare to human bio??? (common pre-med track)

maybe if you have no athletic talent and dont show up to class.

Just graduated with a degree in KIN. Going to medical school next year. It's about the electives you take but it is a pretty rigorous major. That could just my bias I guess.

I'm only 4 minutes in and the kid looks like BJ by his junior year in college. There are some tapes where the "man against boys" is pretty apparent, and this is one of them. Very impressed with his body and hand control.

  • Kinesiology is a pretty tough major, even UM has toughened up their program which is why all football players are general studies now.

  • EXCEL?? Hell, he is barely qualifying. Not a large hurdle. Must have really goofed off (and was allowed to) for years. Should be nowhere close to this being an issue. Hopefully, and signs are positive, he has learned his lesson. If not, he will just end up DQ'ing academically after he arrives on campus sometime over the next few years. I think MD will make sure that does not happen, but only Aaron can control

At MSU Criminal Justice is very popular among football players.

MSU's Kinesiology program ends a lot of pre-med and PT dreams.

true enough...CJ is a joke, but at least it is a halfway decent major, unlike UM's under water beebe stacking for it's athletes... as for Kinesiology, if it's good enough for KC, then I'm sold.
