Will we ever make it to a BCS bowl?

Ok, but that's not what you said. You said "they've barely played compared to regular teams on their docket." Which is not true at all

That's kind of what I meant there. Compared to MSU, OSU, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Wisconsin...ND comes in 12th in terms of games played for Michigan and it's not close.

Wut? Michigan and ND have played each other 16 times in the past 20 years. The last time they didn't play was 2001 I believe

You started regular play with them in the late 70s. Here's when ND started regularly playing their other "annual" games:

    USC: 1926
    MSU: 1948
    Navy: 1927
    Purdue: 1946

Your "rivalry" with ND doesn't go back nearly as far as most people think. There's history at both schools, yes, but there's no history to the rivalry.

M and OSU fans lobbied for it to be this way too.

The rivalry grew to what it is today during the ten year war based on the fact that during most years it had B1G championship/Rose Bowl implications.

The fans pushing Delaney to put OSU and M in seperate division based on the odd and antiquated idea that the two will frequently meet up in the title game to again decide the B1G championship actually has destroyed this part of their rivalry.

The game is just a cross divisional game now that outside of memories and hype is no different than Minnesota - Wisconsin.

Yea, MSU - UM is now more important, because it affects the divisional race.

Quite frankly, the loser of UM-tOSU will likely end up out of the title game. Given how tough the Big 10 is becoming, it's not hard to imagine 6-2 winning the division most years. Look at how good Wisky was last year, and they had 2 Big 10 losses. If UM loses to say, MSU, then State drops a pair to PSU and Iowa, but then UM loses to tOSU, State's going to the CCG.

That's kind of the genius behind what Hollis did in terms of protected rivals. IU should be 9 wins in 10 years at the worst, while tOSU should be 5 wins in 10 years for UM. That extra Big 10 win could give MSU some CCG appearances, which, in turn, increases the chances of State making it to a BCS bowl.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Fielding Yost hated catholics and hated losing to Catholics and even more after ND beat Michigan 1909, Yost boycotted ND, and even tried to organize a failed B1G boycott of ND late in his tenure as Michigan AD. He also hated Knute Rockne for converting to Catholisim...and stealing headlines which didn't help during Yost's tenure as Michigan AD

The Boycott lasted till 1942 when Michigan and ND were forced into a 2 year series due to WWIi travel restrictions.

After these restrictions were lifted, and despite Frank Lehey's insistence, Michigan still refused to play ND until 1978.

They've only played 39 times, that's not a lot compared to ND's more traditional rivalries (Navy -85 games USC- 83 games, Purdue- 83and MSU-75 games).
