  • MSU wins in an ugly game. Crean wants a "pretty" game.

I'm looking at our remaining schedule and fuuuuuuuuu it's deadly. Even if we play incredible, I wouldn't be disappointed with 4 more losses. Wins in Bloomington, Ann Arbor, Columbus, or West Lafayette are bonuses...lose a tough one against UM, MINN, IU, or Wisc at home. I just can't shake the troubles we will face at Assembly Hall, but obviously IU is not as unbeatable as they were made out to be.

    I fully expect a win @Purdue, I don't put that game anywhere near the level that I put @IU, @UM or @OSU

    Victory for MSU!

My biggest concern about this game is that I believe there is no way Nix can hang with Zeller on either end of the floor. Zeller is far to quick for him.. runs the floor as fast as a guard too...has a complete offensive game and is TREMENDOUS on help defense. I don't think Nix can keep up.. even at the opening tip.. let alone later in the game. The rest of the match-ups could be good for State. Dawson is stronger and perhaps more of an athlete than Olidipo has seen all year but Olidipo is a better player than Dawson has seen. PG's? Appling is stronger and more experienced than Yogi Ferrel. Watford at 6-9 is a load at PF for most teams, if he comes to play.. but then when has he had to deal with a 6-10 PF like Payne? The rest of the subs work well against the IN subs though the Hoosiers are deeper in bodies and bodies with significant minutes playe thus far off the bench.

MUCH.. VERY MUCH will depend on how the zebras call the game. MSU is much more physical than IU.. if the refs call it ticky tacky.. forgetaboutit!

I think Nix can handle Zeller just fine. Payne will be on Watford who disappears. Olidipo can only guard 1 of Appling, Dawson and Harris which leaves the other 2 being guarded by Yogi and Hulls. I will take that all day long. Olidipo will probably be on Appling. That means Dawson and Harris have clear advantages that I expect them to take advantage of. I see Payne, Dawson and Harris having big games. I see Appling shutting Hulls down. If we challenge the rest of their jump shooters on the perimeter, game on. I automatically put this game in the loss column earlier in the season. We match up really well with IU. I know they play more players, but in a close game, they will not be going too deep into that bench they already have 1 home loss.

  • Biggest worries for me are Watford and Home Depot. Watford is streaky, but when he's on, he can sink just about anybody (ask that loaded UK team from last year). Payne will have to guard him well from deep. Don't know if we have an answer for Home Depot; not fair for a guy that athletic to be shooting 50% from deep (although he doesn't take very many). Gotta think Dawson draws him; if they play even, I'll be very happy. And of course we absolutely cannot let Hulls get going; he's their Energizer Bunny and Appling has to deny him the ball at all times.

On the other end, we need to make Zeller work and possibly get in foul trouble (highly unlikely at home, but still). IU has no post depth at all; if Zeller is tired or on the bench, Nix and Payne should feast. And we have to exploit the Hulls-Harris matchup. Would love to see Gary go off in front of the home crowd.

This game will either be a blowout in favor of IU or a very tightly contested game, where I think toughness and coaching would favor us. Looking forward to it.

Important? Yes Most important? Its a long season. What if they beat Indiana, then lose their next two home games? The Indiana win means little. Its all about consistency and your body of work. One thing I like about this team is they seem to have bought in to team defense, and if anything helps build consistency its team defense.

If they lose their next two home games the Indiana win still means the same. The Indiana game and the games after are totally mutually exclusive events and have nothing to do with each other.

    You fail at logic.

Pretty much this. Right now I have the legit title contenders tracked as follows:

    1a: Michigan
    1b: IU
    3: MSU
    4. OSU
    5. Minny
    6. Wiscy

If we lose on Sunday, I don't think this really changes. However, I do think a win would put us squarely at the top of the heap.

That being said, I would put my confidence level at like 15% that we'll come out of Bloomington with a win.

Congrats, most ridiculous post of the year so far.
