Winter beer festival!

  • Spartytc said...

And check out Mittenbrew.com, my son's website, big Spartan fan, as he reviews all MI microbreweries and respective beers. Of course, he'll be there and says it's the best of all festivals. Asked him to report back so I can restock, Michigan is turning out some mighty fine brews!

Pretty cool site, thanks for sharing.

  • Can someone please give a report from the Shorts table? What product do they have? Anything interesting today?

    TIA!

Had the Woodmaster and Evil Urges, both dark and heavy and delicious. Stuck with mostly bourbon aged darks. Highlights were Cereal Killer from Arcadia, Retribution by Greenbush, and Black Note from Bells. New Holland had a rum barrel aged Dragons Milk that was special. Needless to say, I was very happy for the taxi service.

Anyone use the shuttles? Curious about this for next year.

I had the Carab Stout which was delicious, along with the aforementioned Stray Cat Street Fighting For The Devil old ale. That was interesting...I found it quite hard to describe the flavor I was tasting, but it was very good.

I had a couple of "snow pours" (as opposed to drain pours)...both of them bourbon flavored. Bourbon is one of the most vile tasting liquors to me, and when I get a hint of that in a beer, I feel like I need to puke. Bourbon flavored beer seems to be all the rage and I'll never understand why.

The highlight of my day was starting the line for the 3pm release of the Bacon Brown from Hideout. By the time it was served, I think there were at least a hundred people in back of me. Moments before it was tapped, many were chanting "BACON! BACON! BACON!" lol I got my sample, turned around and faced the line and took a sip...and then gave a thumbs up. Everyone cheered. One guy yelled, "HE LIKES IT!" lol

    I love drunk people. biggrin

  • Had a good time yesterday. I avoided the big release beers as I've had pretty much all of them. A few highlights... Michigan Mud from Kuhnhenn, BBL 4th Dementia from Kuhnhenn, Raspberry Eisbock... From Kuhnhenn. You know what? The line was amazingly short there that I hung around it for a good hour and well... It toasted me pretty good. My memory is a bit foggy after that.

Some BAD beers I can recall, Vanilla Bean Porter from Paw Paw... Tasted like burnt ass. Juicy Tree from Short's... as my friend put it, this is what it must taste like to gargle cat piss.

Oh and if you're the girl with the pink pants I met in the line for the portajohn (romantic)... WHERE ARE YOU!? I WANT YOUR NUMBER!!!!!!!

But on a serious note, it's time for Bloody Mary's and perhaps a pint before I watch this MSU/OSU game.

    Cheers!

Did you try their coconut beer? The coconut flavor was way too strong to me but my buddy loved it. The brewmaster was saw my reaction and I told him what I thought and he said, "Good, that is what I like to hear." He was very positive for critiques of his beer, which I think is a great thing. Some people get a little defensive if you don't like their beer.

I did not try the coconut. I tried their impy stout which wasn't bad. Just seemed it was that beer. I don't like bombing a breweries beers. But it was that bad.

  • It was a good time until I had to leave to get a buddy out of the back of a cop car. Some people can't handle themselves.
