Winter is coming.... Game of Thrones: Season 2

  • Can't wait, I've rewatched the first season after reading books 1-4. I've also just ordered book 5 (Dance With Dragons) so it should be great timing.

  • Clash of Kings is this year. Stom of Swords will be two seasons 2013-2014. My guess is that Feast of Crows and Dance of Dragons will combine into two seasons 2015-2016 but played chronologically as opposed to how Martin wrote it by geography. That will mean that Winds of Winter will be the seventh season scheduled for 2017. He probably has to have the book out by the end of 2015 to give the show producers time prepare for the season. I seriously doubt if he can do it. And there is no way he has both the final two books written by the end of 2016.

7 seasons seems unlikely to me. I think fans of the show will have to turn to the books to get the end of the story, and who knows if he'll ever even finish writing the end.

Have any other HBO shows last that long?

Sopranos lasted "6" but Season 6 was split into Part I and II. Most of them last between 5 and 6 seasons. Dexter looks like it's going to go 8 at least.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Doesn't make sense for them to abandon the series like that prematurely, especially one that is so popular. If it wasn't getting great ratings and reviews, I could understand, but it's been one of the most successful series in HBO history.

"A recent article from the New York Times focusing on the competition between Showtime and HBO has revealed updated audience totals for some of HBO’s shows. And what do you know, Game of Thrones has now passed Boardwalk Empire to become HBO’s 2nd most watched show! Thrones clocks in with an average of 9.3 million viewers per episode, while Boardwalk is now at 8.4 million. True Blood is tops with 12.6 million.

Not only that, but the article reports that True Blood and Thrones trail only The Sopranos for the most watched show in the network’s history! That’s pretty amazing."

Entourage lasted 8 seasons.... and GOT seems to be a very popular show. So hopefully as long as it keeps an above average amount of viewers they will continue to make new seasons.

Nice thing about GOT is that the writers don't have to come up with the plot on their own, since Martin essentially hands them an extremely well written script.

In other words . . . I highly doubt that there will be any contrived or forced plots, as have come up with other HBO shows.

I suppose you are right, though I feel like the cast/crew involved in producing GOT is more intensive than Entourage. If there was a way to bet, I'd still put a bet on under 7 seasons. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I intended to read the book before season 2 aired. I really have no incentive now. I could always do on demand I guess and just read the book. HBO did such an awesome job with season 1, I feel like I'm not missing anything by skipping the books.

Dude read the books. Quit being a slob, it's worth it.

  • I kind of wish they called the series a Song of Ice and Fire, then named each series after the respective book. I think it would be better if this season was called "A Song of Ice and Fire: A Clash of Kings".

  • I just finished book 3. Holy shit. Don't get attached to any characters, that's all I can say. Book 3 was so exciting that I wish I could be watching that in April instead of book 2.

I also recommend going back and starting from book 1 if you're gonna start reading the series.

No. Man up and DO get attached to characters. It makes the book SO much better when the characters you care about are in danger--because they might not get out of it.

Trust me, you can take it.

  • They should call this show "Game of Titties"

That would be a fairly accurate description, and would make it even more awesome (which may not be possible)
