Winter is coming.... Game of Thrones: Season 2

  • Misterray said...

    hahahahaha!

    It hurts so good, Rocky!

It's one of the reasons this series rises above. ANYONE can die!

I've thrown several books across the room. Didn't stop me from getting through them.

If by "anyone can die" you mean "everyone dies and the Iron Throne is going to be inherited by a pair of sheep", then yes, anyone can die.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Yep...I read that they are bringing Jeyne and Ygritte into this one. I think the show would be better served if the seasons didn't exactly correspond chronologically with the books. I am on Book 4 right now and am having a very hard time getting through it as it is just awful. I know Book 5 is supposedly much better so I am powering through, but if they made a season of the show that is only A Feast for Crows, my guess is that they lose a ton of viewers.

Ygritte is in Book 2 . . . and the stuff with Jeyne happens off-screen between books 2 and 3.

I wouldn't call it awful, but I know what you mean about book 4. I'm having a hard time starting book 5 just because 4 was so monotonous. Season 2 looks pretty badass though.... too bad I don't have HBO :(

  • Edit: SPOILER ALERT

I think its awesome that they are bringing Jeyne into this season. Robb is never a POV character, so based on the books we have no idea how they meet, etc. I like that we get a little more depth on the non-POV characters in the TV series like they did with Littlefinger and Arys in the first season.

  • I've never seen an episode. Based on the title, can I assume the show is a bunch of dwarves and elves playing musical chairs?

Book 4 just takes some time to grow on you since they spend so much time in it on different cultures. It's almost like a reset and the start of a new series. The Dornish and the Ironborn really grow on you by book 5 though.

I would agree. Book 4 and 5 are actually just one really long book. Lots of world building without much plot adavancement. Lots of great stuff gleaned in re reads, but kind of cumbersome. Except for the North storyline in book 5...which is awesome. The North remembers!

This. Martin said he had books 4 and 5 condensed into one, but he just couldn't tell half the story so he needed to make two books.

For those of you that don't know, books 4 and 5 happen at the same time until later in book 5 when the two time periods meet up. Different characters in both books.

I actually enjoyed book A Feast For Crows. It was slower than the first 3 mainly because the war of the 5 Kings is over, but it becomes very important to learn the new Dornish characters and the Ironborn as they will play a huge part in books 5-7.

"Heh! I have no idea what I'm talking about, but this has swords, so here's a D & D/LotR joke about children's chair games! Hee hee! Look at my wit!"

Fact is HBO made an inspired adaptation of a great book. One can hope this success will continue.

yeah, it annoyed me that they would be discussing something in book 4 of someone dying and then in book 5 he's wandering around (and then killed)

They should just rename the series "Everybody Dies"

    I doubt he's dead...

    Spoilers/geek stuff...

he's probably going to warg into Ghost. His body can be preserved inside the wall (as it has already been established that meat can stay good inside the walls for years during the winter) and then he can warg back into his body. Since his human body is dead, he can then warg back into there, and be relieved of his night watch duty and can pursue the whole R+L=J story line.

Thats what I think too. I think it was GRRM's way of getting him out of the Nights Watch to he can join in the war. I think he is the ice part of ice and fire and he is going to be reborn in ice as Dany was in fire. Whether it is Melisandre, warging, or becoming an other, it will be interesting to see how GRRM handles it.
