This. It teaches hard work, reliability, punctuality, team work, how to win with poise and lose with grace. Pricing some people out of sports is a damn shame and no fault of the student athlete that is losing the most.

In some districts pay-to-play is still going up. In a lot of the districts where it was implemented early, it's now going down, or even being eliminated. Unfortunately, the urban schools are going to have it the longest. This was an awesome move though. Hopefully it can keep a few kids out of trouble, and help out the economy.
