Deciding on that line is why we have refs in the first place. What's the line between playing tough defense and hacking a guy? What's the line between a charge and a blocking foul? The rules say particular things, but things are up for interpretation.
We have replays. Last season, every single elbow was reviewed. I saw some that looked malicious, and the refs came back and gave the guy a flagrant, and some that were incidental, like a guy going up for a rebound and turning around into a guy - no foul called. Why is that not enough? Your saying "welp, tough luck" to guys who make incidental contact?

There are plenty of fouls that are just dumb luck... So I guess yes. Do I think it should automatically be a flagrant? Not necessarily.
But the point is that some dudes throw elbows to clear space and it is dangerous, and somehow that should be disincentived. Ever played ball and had a dude start swinging those like crazy to the point where's everyone stands back and says "WTF, you're flipping crazy!!"?
The dudes on here who think that swinging elbows is the only way to get out of a trap are mind boggling. Unfortunately they're also coaching 7th grade hoops, probably having his team play 2-3 collapsed zone all game. Smh at Gob bluth

That is the way basketball has been taught since the beginning of time. As a coach, I am really struggling to see what you are supposed to teach with this. Get a rebound, be strong with the ball, if you get someone they will think twice about getting in your grill again. Refs don't do a good job of keeping people off from you after you grab a rebound, so you have to do it yourself. If someone takes a head shot so be it.
Not liking where basketball and football are going, with this emphasis on protecting the head.
Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.
