gHost's random music observations

  • I love mid-career (80s) Depeche Mode, Black Celebration through Violator

STP recorded some impressive stuff - haven't heard them in a whole downloaded them on spotify

I just can't get into Biggie or 2Pac. Love Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube the best from that era

Queen was highly underrated, musical geniuses

The Cars. Listen to the more obscure (read non hits) tracks. Mind blowing. Great band.

  • You're missing out. Early new wave/new romantic DM, especially Speak and Spell with Vince Clarke, is great fun. Post-Violator albums, Songs of Faith and Devotion, Ultra, and Exciter are some of their best work.

Ultra is right up there with Black Celebration, personally.

I loved Depeche Mode in high school. Saw them play at Pine Knob, think it was 89 or 90. Can't listen to them now. Just hasn't aged well to my ears.

STP sucks. I'm flummoxed how anyone can listen to the song, Plush, and not laugh at the inept songwriting. "When the dogs begin to smell her, will she smell alone?" If it's not the worst line, of all time, in a popular rock song, it's close.

I'm a fan of rap music from its beginnings but never got into Pac or Biggie either.

I agree that Queen is vastly underrated and is one of rock n roll's best bands. Been listening to Sheer Heart Attack a lot lately.

The Cars are great too. Both Okasek and Orr were genius songwriters. Okasek has done some great production work for other bands, including Guided By Voices Do the Collapse.

  • Me and Nakid Boibeys were 15th row center at the Depeche Mode Rose Bowl concert when I lived in LA. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.

Oh, dear Gahan, that is the Holy Grail of DM fandom. Have you ever spotted yourself in 101? The vision of Anton Corbijn was singlehandedly responsible for creating the unique look and feel of their video presence.

What I would have given to have been on that bus tour. lol

I hate to admit it but I've never seen the 101 video!

U2 was there, watching from the press box.

Thomas Dolby and OMD where opening acts.

It was definitely a great day.
