guy will tightrope across Niagara Falls tonight?

  • Interesting I think I'll tune in. Part of me actually wants to see the guy fall just to see what it would look like but I am confident he'll make it and I don't want a lifetime of bad karma so I'll take that comment back

  • He will be wearing a harness in case he falls. Completely took all risk out of this and doesn't sound very exciting to watch.

Wallenda readies for tightrope walk over Niagara Falls | Fox News

Nik Wallenda says he’s like a kid on Christmas morning, about to live a dream he’s had since he was six years old, when he first visited Niagara Falls and decided he wanted to walk across it.

Some people were talking about this last night. Supposedly he is going to stop shortly after starting to take his harness off. If so, might be kinda cool. If not, it'll be boring.

Yeah he can take it off if it becomes too bothersome. It's been all over the news around here for weeks. ABC forced him to wear it in the first place. God forbid someone dies on national TV. Think of the ratings when they would have to search for him!

If he takes it off, I bet they stop airing it and refuse to pay. He agreed to wear it because it cost him $1.5M to set the whole thing up.

  • Yeah i would only watch if there was no harness and he could possibly plunge to his death. Pussification of america is right, we need more thrill seekers like Jeb Corliss who don't really give a shit if they die or not doing their stunts. Thats the whole thrill of it.

  • By the way, this guy's family has a long history of tightrope walking. I was a kid when this guy's great grand-father fell to his death during a stunt. I can remember the article in the detroit news. He tried to sit down on the wire to prevent the fall, but fell anyway.

    Karl Wallenda´s last walk.wmv

The Great Wallendas were noted throughout Europe for their four-man pyramid and cycling on the high wire. The act moved to the United States in 1928 and began an association with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Combined Circus. Later they performed as freelancers. In 1947 they developed the unequaled three-tier 7-Man Pyramid. The Great Wallendas, a 1978 made-for-TV movie starring Lloyd Bridges as Karl Wallenda, depicts the act's comeback after a fatal accident involving several family members during a performance. Despite being involved in several tragedies in his family's acts, Wallenda continued with his stunts. In 1978, at age 73, Wallenda attempted a walk between the two towers of the ten-story Condado Plaza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on a wire stretched 37 metres (121 ft) above the pavement, but fell to his death when winds exceeded 48 kilometres per hour (30 miles per hour). The Wallenda family attributes the tragedy to "several misconnected guy ropes along the wire" and not the windy conditions. A film crew from WAPA-TV in San Juan taped the fall, and the video, featuring anchorman Guillermo Jose Torres' anguished narration of the fall, circled the world. Rick Wallenda went back the following year and completed the walk successfully.[citation needed] He was quoted as saying, "Life is being on the wire; everything else is just waiting."

I highly doubt that, hes just saying that so he doesn't come across as a soft bitch. If he was a real daredevil this wouldn't be aired on abc it would be sponsered by Red Bull with no harness and broadcast on either pay per view or youtube or something. This guy is a sellout, who isn't hard core. You dont see jeb corliss grabbing money from ABC to do something crazy as long as theres a saftey valve. The dude jumps out of airplanes without a parachute. Thats unbelievably awesome and hes a real daredevil, not this commercialization pussification of america that we will see on abc tonight. Besides if he does it nobody will even rememeber this clown the next day, unless he plunges to his death. I hope the harness snaps and abc has a mess on their hands.

    I think 2 inches...then there is this:

"...the challenges facing Wallenda, including the thick plume of mist that will soak the cable and the winged threats from territorial peregrine falcons that nest nearby and can swoop in on a target at 200 mph."
