iPhone 5 possibly released in June 2012

  • I guess you've got to recruit people to build it and those large numbers are noticeable.

The large screen looks pretty sweet. I'm due for a new phone but I think I'll wait for this to come out.

iPhone 5 release date: Apple's Chinese supplier Foxconn is recruiting 18k people to build new device 'due in June' | Mail Online

The leak came from an interview with a recruiter from Apples controversial Chinese supplier Foxconn aired on Japanese television.

  • No way that Apple would wait a 1 1/2 years to release the 4s (after the 4 was released), and then 7 months later release the iPhone 5.

Also, if the iPhone 5 is going to have LTE. It's in Apple's best interest to continue to work on the battery life of an LTE phone while the AT&T and Sprint networks are put in place. AT&T still doesn't have LTE in Philadelphia, Detroit, Minneapolis, etc. I'm thinking we see the LTE iPhone 5 in June 2013.

Apple was hoping to have the iPhone 5 ready last year. They didn't, so they delayed it and released the 4S with software improvements as the major upgrade. I have heard conflicting reports about an iPhone 5 release date ... June/July and September/October are the major candidates. But it's almost certainly going to be in 2012.

They don't give a shit that AT&T and Sprint don't have their LTE rollouts very far along (Sprint in particular has done jack squat). But 3G will still work, and this will put pressure on the carriers to get LTE in more markets.

Some of the other rumored hardware upgrades:
    - New design
    - Curved glass
    - Haptic display technology
    - NFC
    - Larger screen

  • Apple better bring it strong with the iPhone 5.

I'm seriously considering switching to the Motorola Droid or the Galaxy Nexus.

    (I have an iPhone 4.)

  • This could be a pretty good phone but I had this reaction when I went down the list compared to my Galaxy Nexus:

4 inch screen - Got it (4.65 actually)
Thinner sleeker design - Got it
Built in GPS standard - Got it
Face Recognition Security - Got it
Face Time on 3G and 4G - Got it
Custom E-mail alerts with ability to assign different tones to each email address - Got it
8 MEGAPIXEL Camera rear and 5 in front (I will give apple credit - the iPhone has a better camera)
Extended battery life = 20 hours talk time on 3G and 10 hours on 4G. (again, credit to apple battery is prob better tho let's see with 4G)
Full 1080p HD Recording - Got it
3D Video Display (this could be interesting)
Messaging indicator light - Got it

So I guess my reaction was that it will be a good phone but 90% of the things I have on my GNex which I purchased in November.

3D kills battery life, I really can't see Apple putting it in. Additionally, then they would have to put in 2 8 megapixel cameras. That adds bulk (to the point where the phone doesn't feel even in ones hand).

ONly things on that list that I give a crap about is the message indicator light. That's just becasue I'm so used to my blackberry.

Frankly the iphone 5 looks so retarded in that picture is almost makes me hate apple, hater style.

  • FYI guys, any megapixel greater than ~7-8 really means nothing unless you are blowing up a picture larger than 8x10. For a phone, a camera >5MP is basically useless, as the optics and the light sensor really arent good enough to take anything that would make you want to blow them up that big....

  • Of course it will be. And it will be everything the 4S was expected to be.

Another year, another stringing people along for technology that *should* have been out with the previous model. Now watch as people camp out for days leading up to it's release. Sheep.

I can't wait to hear Apple touting how awesome the larger display and 4G LTE are.

    Welcome to 2010, Apple.

Apple has gotten a lot better with their pre-ordering process and having enough supply to meet initial demand. For example, the 3rd gen iPad release was huge in term of unit sales, but iCamper lines were relatively short. Of course there will still be some people who camp out, but that's more because they are die-hard fans, not unlike people who camp out for a beer release, or sports tickets, etc.

The iPhone 4S would have been the iPhone 5 if Jonathan Ive and others thought it was ready. Rumor is that it had heating issues, and that they didn't have curved glass mass production in place anyway. Presumably, they've used the extra time to work out kinks in what will be the iPhone brand's most significant hardware upgrade since its inception in 2007.

People camp out for beer releases and sports tickets because there are limited supplies and those things can be difficult to get and/or much more expensive to get if you aren't part of the initial sale.

People camp out for iPhones so they can brag about being the first one to own the latest version. 24 hours later you could walk into the same store and buy the same thing without waiting in line.

    There is a big difference.
