lets talk about job unhappiness

  • recently moved back to michigan, transferred within my current company to the new office, same job status level, same responsibilities. love the company, and actually love what i do, but always looking to move up in the corporate ladder. slowly starting to realize there is little upward mobility in this office, and while i came into this office keeping my good salary, they will give me crappy raises to even it out and keep it equal with the others at my level. While my previous office encouraged and rewarded an individual trying to get ahead, this one seems to discourage it and maintain status quo.

    bummer man

end rant. i know, cool story bro

  • It makes you feel better if you leave random bags of shit everywhere. Main conference table, the tiles above bosses desk, any plants around the office, even full the printer cartridge with liquidy poo. It's the cure all for the office blues.

That's what happens when you return to a place no one ever leaves.

Have a relative in medical device sales who was previously in pharmaceutical sales. In both cases the reps covering the Lake MI side of the state (TC, GR, Kzoo, St Joe) never left. A few became regional managers and they never left either. Same goes for other healthcare related jobs. You start in places like Chicago or Boston for what a person with 10 years experience gets in West MI because no one wants to leave.

No job is perfect. That is why I insist they pay me a ridiculously high salary. Love what you make, not what you do.

look at this way. you got out of chicago alive before being shot. your taxes are lower. your cost of living is lower. people are nicer in michigan (IMHO). you are closer to EL, right? they brew better beer in MI. in the summer it stays light out until nearly 10pm, while the latest it stays light in the summer in chicago is 8:30. that means you can play 18 holes after work, oh and the golf courses are way better and cheaper than chicago.

any of this helping? if you are making the same or slightly better money, you got it made in the shade rockon

The only thing I do miss about Michigan is how long it stays light out in the summer.

I moved back after 14 years in Chicago (moved back to help with family). Found a job (I love what I do), but hate my company. Been here 4 years now and I'm getting burned out on Lansing.

I'm moving back to Chicago the first chance I get. I have interviewed with a couple places in Chicago, but the fact that I have moved back here seems to be an issue. It has been very frustrating.

So I can really feel your pain, TF.

  • I was working a 60 hour a week job. A salary position making $48k + benefits. I fucking hated it. I wanted to drive my car into the river on my way home everyday.

Now I'm working as a consultant. Just landed a 12-18 month assignment with a large company. $40 an hour for 40 hours a week max. No benefits, but my wife is employed, so I hopped onto her coverage. If this goes well, I will probably continue working as a consultant vs belonging to a company.
