lol at Huge suggesting that Nix is being paid

Why would that be feeding the fire?! It's not a leap in logic to suggest the car belonged to the family of a passenger, who happens to be a fellow student from Detroit. If you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.....

Meaning the speculation fire, not the chicken little world is ending whoa is me fire.

I've no idea. Rexrode's piece doesn't mention it either way; neither does the Free Press.......

Again, according to who??? Self loathing MSU fans are perpetuating this more than any legitimate source.

Cars are a big red flag for impermissible benefits. A hoops star documented driving a newer car is going to draw questions. It's reality.

Until the program releases some sort of explanation for where Nix was and whose car he was driving, they are going to be subject to these sorts of questions.

Hollis said today that there won't be any comment until legal proceedings are complete.

That may not fly in this case.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous.

MSU/Hollis doesn't have to say squat and I sure hope they don't. Innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around.

    Review the facts:
    1. Nix is found driving in a nice car. The only thing we know is that Nix was dring a car not registered in his name, something I bet well over 50% of MSU students do.
    2. Some blowhards say "Hey I wonder if there's CHEATING going on here?!?!"
    3. There's zero proof of impropriety of any kind.
    4. Izzo is known to be squeaky clean.

You think those 4 things combined, should lead to some sort of statement from the University? loco

Next you're going to want SMU to come to the defense of Craig James over his killing of 5 hookers. I mean...people are saying he did. And no explanation has been released by anyone. So...

  • I can think of about 8 cars I drove in college that weren't registered to me. Who cares

  • Two of my roommates have talked to Keith in the last week about Derrick, although not specifically about the car, and he said both times there was nothing to worry about, Derrick will be back on the squad and everything. I'd think if Keith knew Derrick had obtained this car illegally he'd be a little more worried, as he'd know about it I'm sure. Also, Keith's been over a couple times in a nicer car then this charger, and they're from the same area/high school. Again, if he can afford it legally, so could Derrick, and if not, then I think he'd be a little more concerned.

  • I hate talk radio.... in addition to a full ride scholarship, they get a $1000/month or so for living expenses.. plus there is a possibility of a GM discount too.. I am not worried. I have seen several prominent MSU athletes over the past several years including Nix and Appling. Some with nicer cars, some not. Jerel Worthy and his mom had a total beater. Everyone student athlete I have seen were rather polite and no one was flaunting a lot of cash or bling.. all in all good kids..(I am including Lucas, Lucious and Chris Allen too). The world would be a better place without talk radio.

  • On the note of money... I believe if you are on a full athletic scholarship you still qualify for federal financial aid, ie Pell Grants. Just like if you're on a merit scholarship, then you still can get Pell grants. Hence all the brainiacs bragging how they are being paid to go to school. I remember my freshmen year (2007), one of the football players telling me how he was going to get all of his Pell grant money in cash and carry it around with him.

If you have a full ride and get 3k-5k from a Pell grant on top of that, then a car is very affordable. That's not even counting loans he could have taken out. Or...merit scholarships Nix may have earned...maybe...

These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.

  • If it makes anyone feel better, the only Charger I can find registered to a Pettway in Detroit is a 2007...cops make this kind of mistake all the time FWIW. But then I got thinking..."Barbara Pettway"...
    B - Bring
    A - All
    R - Recruits
    B - Back
    A - And
    R - Right
    A - Away

    P - Pettway
    E - Enough $$$
    T - To
    T - Trade/Lease Charger
    W - With
    A - All
    Y - You

We're through the looking glass here people...

  • If you can read this sign you aren't Barbara Pettway

If the story is that a GM discount was used to by a new Dodge Charger, there will be many more questions asked.

    How 'bout a Chrysler discount?

The kid was driving a Dodge Charger This is the 2012 version of the Dodge Stratus.

Without wading into the whole Nix thing, I do have to point out this major car knowledge fail.

The current Dodge Charger is a rwd car, essentially the Dodge version of the Chrysler 300. Nothing to do with the old fwd Stratus.
