married guys- do you do laundry?

  • AMwood said...

it's not. but who shovels the driveway and mows the lawn in this scenario? or fixes a sewage pump that's splattered shit all over the basement walls?

If you try to find an equitable distribution of household chores it will just lead to a fight. Marriage really doesn't work that way. My wife is a busier person than I am and I travel on business which leaves more of a burden for her. So I do what I can to help and try not to bitch about it. I am also more OCD than she is which is my burden not hers.

This is the truth. Hell, I was doing laundry during the game on Tuesday

Now I know why State lost.

Don't blame me. I used fabric softener

  • Probably more than most married men. Some of her clothes I don't touch and let her do them.
Ironing is therapy for her. She got a new Rowenta iron for Christmas and loves it. biggrin

I get towels and jeans. Sweatshirts if there are enough.

Easy loads that I cant screw up.

    same here.

I've tried to do the laundry, but the wife hates it because she says I fold them wrong or I let them sit to long and they get wrinkled...

(nevermind the fact she usually overloads the washer and dryer and it creases my jeans and slacks)

overall, not going to complain. I get the simple stuff to wash, but I get sock-matching duty which is pretty time-consuming.

  • All the time. Where's the issue here?

    Motown Spartan

  • We pretty much split the laundry duty. No problems with that. I like to fold the towels a certain way which sometimes ticks her off, but other than that, we're good. When you have three boys in sports the laundry builds up in piles you could ski down. Did four loads of laundry yesterday and feel damn happy about it.

i understand that you can't find an equitable distribution. but certain people with huge cunts think the cooking, laundry and cleaning where the chores to be split, but those outside nasty chores are for men to do.

when everybody gets equal access to the lifeboat on a sinking ship, then we can talk about splitting things equally.

    AMwood

  • I do most of the laundry, the cooking and most cleaning. My wife works, I take care of the home. Usually we do a good job of splitting things up but she's pregnant so now I do almost all of it.

From a personal standpoint, my wife actually shovels as much or more than I do. I mow the lawn, but that's mostly because I'm picky about how it looks. My wife offers to mow the lawn, but I don't trust her to do a good job with it and I kind of like getting outside for 90 minutes on the weekend in the summer.

I think you're getting played. Well, I do the laundry and pick up around the house, my wife offers to, but she doesn't do it up to my standards. I also mow the lawn and do the outside stuff, my wife offers to but she just doesn't do it very well. You see a pattern here?

As to the OP, if by doing laundry you mean making sure my clothes get into the dirty clothes basket so that they magically reappear in my dresser and closet then yes, I do help with the laundry.

  • She does her laundry, I do my laundry. We both do the towels and sheets, but I probably do them more often that she does.

    Bridon Gueermo

  • I haven't done it since I got married, 8 years ago. I don't think it's a big deal either way. Except the folding part, that part sucks. Honestly, I tried to screw that part up and she hasn't asked me since then.

So when you pass by the sink full of dirty dishes you just say screw it and move on because you mowed the lawn earlier?

    why don't you ask kyle?

    AMwood

  • We each do our own mostly. I usually end up washing some of her stuff especially workout gear since I have quite a bit each week.

She does 90% of cooking and most of the cleaning (I get the bathrooms and outdoor stuff). I figured that was an even trade off for the quantity of work she does.

We both work full time but she enjoys cooking and is better at it. I get the groceries because she hates to shop.

  • Whenever tWife starts to open her trap I ask her "Did I say you could speak?"
I then direct her to the kitchen to make me a pie.

I can't understand people that complain about having to do laundry. You throw it in the washer and then go back to whatever you want to do for 30 minutes. Then you take 1 minute to move it to the dryer, and go back to what you were doing for 30-45 minutes.

I guess I understand complaints if you don't have a washer and dryer at your house/apartment (I never lived anywhere without my own washer and dryer except the dorms, so I've never actually been to a laundromat). If you had to actually pack up your clothes, drive somewhere, sit and hang out for a couple hours, and eventually take it all home, I could see complaining about doing laundry. Other than that, doing laundry is by far the easiest chore

QFT. My wife tends to be something of a 'scorekeeper' -- she'll let me know what jobs she's done, especially during school holidays (like this week) when she isn't teaching. I come home from work and she runs through the list of everything she's done that day, during which I have to try to pretend to give a shit.

It's difficult when she tells me that she did three loads of laundry, because she sure as hell didn't iron any of it -- most of the time she hasn't even folded the stuff that doesn't need ironing, just leaves it in the basket. Which means that her 'three loads of laundry' took all of about five minutes to accomplish.

I would say that she washes/dries about 75% of the laundry, but I do 100% of the ironing and fold/put away about 80%. Thanks for bringing this up, OP -- now I'm going to go home and slap that bitch. slap lol

  • My mother-in-law does it for us. lol She watches our kids while we work, and she can't help but do our laundry, our dishes, and some other general cleaning while she's at our house all day. We have it made.

The laundry fairy comes to your house as well?

I only do laundry when the wife is out of town. Other than that, she tells me that she prefers to do the laundry. I do all the outside stuff aside from pulling weeds. I would say, she does about 60-65% of the cooking and I do the rest. We get our house cleaned once a week and I can honestly say that I am not sure that my wife knows how to turn on the new vacuum. I probably do 70-75% of the kids baths/showers. We split pickup/drop offs with the kids unless she has a conflict in her schedule as my days are much more flexible.

  • Part of our tiff was the folding. I have no idea how to fold most of her clothes so I left them in the basket. I folded the kids things (stay at home Dad his year so I don't mind taking on more, previous working years did my own) and why fold hers if she's probably going to redo it. Damned if you do/don't. My general assumption was that many husbands don't do laundry, this is how I grew up. Glad to see I wasn't totally right.

Yes. I do laundry, as well as cook and clean. The wife and I pretty much share all the duties of the house as we both work full time. It would be different if she stayed at home.

This although she probably does 4 loads to my 1.

  • We both do our own. tWife does hang my stuff that can't be put in a dryer on a rack for me though. It's an even exchange. I am the only one that handles garbage, mowing, and snow clearing duties.
