Ahh, yes -- "double chins and bowling pins." That line always gets me. I think I listened to EIM on repeat for a few hours when it first surfaced. Great double album, and a great song.

I would say the song is a fair representation as well.

  • it sounds ok. Not as good as BSSM/One Hot Minute (which I believe was the peak of RHCP), or even Mother's Milk/Freaky Styley, but worlds better than By the Way and Stadium Arcadium, which were horrendous.

  • This song came out like a month or two ago, FYI. I like the song but the chorus is bad. It will NOT be better than the wonderful Stadium Arcadium, and I miss the Californication days. I applaud them for keeping the rock alive, even without Frusciante (which is sad).

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

  • I'm a casual fan, and thought it was really good. I'm so happy they are still making music in this horrific musical time.

I would argue that By The Way showcased Flea pretty well. You can tell that John was definitely in the driver's seat on Stadium Arcadium, though

He was ready to quit after By the Way because he was tired of the over-melodic stuff, he's wanted to go back to Funk for years, but Frusciante wouldn't do it.

  • It is one thing that Fruschiante does not want to be in a band and do his own thing. I wish he would put out some damn music and play shows once in a while. His solo music is great but he does not really put it out there much.

wow that sucked, the video was cool though. Time to give up RHCP

Yep. RHCP have been irrelevant for a long time. Time to go tour with Pearl Jam in the Remember Us From the 90's Tour.

That tour would sell out every stadium worldwide that it would stop at. They are both hardly irrelevent.

I was talking musically. When was the last time either released anything that was worth a shit? I'll hang up and listen.

I have loved almost everything both bands have put our in that time. You might not like them but their huge fanbases seem to indicate they are still plenty relevent. When they start playing venues like the Chesaning Showboat Festival is when I will agree they are no longer relevent.

No need to get defensive about what I said. I'm not here to debate what you consider good music. I was the biggest Pearl Jam fan back in the 90's. They have a niche audience at best now. Good for you for still liking them. Myself along with a lot of others think they've lost something.

You asked when they put out something worth listening to so I answered it.I think you equate something being worth listening to as something that is played mainstream FM stations. There are just barely any rock stations anymore.

Agreed. I am a huuuuge fan of his solo work and like it much better than his Chili Peppers stuff. Unfortunately John is a huge believer in devoting most of his time to making the best music he can rather than gaining popularity or star status. I loved the Empyrean, which was after the band's split, but other than that he's just done a lot of collaborations with other artists. One of them that I've really liked is the guitar work he contributed to the group Swahili Blonde, which is actually headed by his wife. They have a myspace, and I would recommend checking their stuff out. There have also been rumors that he's planning another solo album that will come out in the next year, but who knows...
