Spartans Head to Greenville, S.C., For Fifth Straight Year - MICHIGAN STATE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

Michigan State travels to Greenville, S.C., for the fifth straight year this weekend to play in one of the finest baseball parks in all of Minor League Baseball, Fluor Field at the West End. The Spartans will play a doubleheader on Friday, facing Miami-Ohio (2-1) at 1 p.m. and then Furman (2-3) at 5 p.m. MSU will then face Furman Saturday at 4 p.m. and Miami-Ohio on Sunday at 12 p.m.

7-0 MSU, 1 out, runners on 1st and 2nd.
Jones, Keur, Hook, Pickens (double), Martinez, Krill, and Goergen all with hits.
Update...still batting in 3rd, still only 1 out.
new pitcher, Jones single, Scanlon single, Boss walk, Keur HBP
Now 10-0 MSU

Miami double play to end the inning and stop the bleeding.
Headed to the top of the 4th.
12-0 MSU. Bucciferro was sitting for almost an hour...hope he stays sharp.

Miami touched up Bucciferro for 1 run in the 4th and 3 runs in the 5th.
12-4 MSU headed to the bottom of the 5th.
The runs were the first given up by Bucciferro this year. You have to think his sitting during the 1-hr bottom 3 didn't help his rhythm.

Good start for the bullpen so far...
righty reliever Joe Zwierzynski pitched himself into a 1st and 3rd, 1-out jam in the 7th and got himself out of the inning with no runs.
Martinez then led off the home half of the inning with a triple. Krill walked...
runners on 1st and 3rd, no outs.
MSU double steal? Up 8 in late innings...not sure about that one.
Martinez scored, Krill out a 2nd.
Headed to the 8th, MSU now up 13-4

Ballgame, 13-4 final
Great all-around game for the guys.
Zwierzynski pitched all 3 innings of relief and pitched very well.
I will post the MSU official site recap when available.
Thanks for following along...I will be working to keep this active all year.

MSU is now 3-2 on the season.
We won both games yesterday.

Today's game vs. Furman is at 5PM.
No gametracker, but Furman does have live stats on their site...similar to gametracker.
The link for their site is attached.
Our starter today is Soph RHP David Garner. He was touched up a bit during his opening start last weekend against Louisville, but showed his potential during stretches of the game.
Tomorrow's game vs. Miami (Oh) is at 12PM. Gametracker will be available for that game.
Also attached our season-to-date stats.
The returning guys are hitting as expected or better, but the frosh need to pick it up.
Our 3 opening day freshman starters are currently hitting .146 in the 5 games to start the year. Hopefully their comfort level at the plate will increase with each weekend tourney going forward.
