tOfficial 2012 Formula 1 thread

  • We did this a few years ago and thought I'd revive it as there are at least a handful of F1 fans on here.

Testing looks like a mixed bag as far as who's in front. Ferarri seem unsatisfied with their pace. McLaren were up and down. Red Bull look like they're struggling for back end grip. Lotus (Renault) may start the season on top. Raikkonen looks like he hasn't missed a beat after 2 years of WRC.

Anyway, looking forward to Practice in Oz starting late tonight!

    Let's talk F1!

  • Thanks. F1 is my favorite motor sport and Ferrari my preferred team. It does not look good for poor Alonso at this point.

Same here - well at least about F1 being my favorite motor sport. I've always sort of viewed Ferrari as the evil empire, though. smile_msu

The aesthetics of the cars are going to take some getting used to. Those step shelf fronts are YUCK!

I'm stunned that the Ice Man has been as quick as he has in testing. It'll be interesting if that remains the case.

    Go Button!

P.S. Also looking forward to seeing how Rubens does in IndyCar this year.

  • I hope Nico tears it up this year. Mercedes needs to step up or step out.

  • Another riveting year of watching a couple dozen cars run in single file with no passing. I can't wait.

I think it is sad I agree with you...F1 has become REALLY lame...and I love one of the top teams (McLaren) but man watching the races has become so boring when there is limited passing (and then penalties all the time for even trying to since there are wrecks due to people actually trying to keep you behind them)

Did you watch last year? The DRS and KERS made a big difference in passing last year. Apart from Red Bull...well Vettel...the top 3 teams were really close and you were never quite sure who would come out on top from race to race.

DRS and KERS were fine for those sections where they were enabled. Of course you had to be withina second in order to use them in the first place. But sorry Vettel (RB in general) were far and away superior. I have no problem with that but it should be more competative and the penalties garbage for wrecks when attempting to pass is stupid.

I see your point, but the reality of racing is that there are only certain sections which lend themselves to passing. It's true in NASCAR too.

Webber was pretty pedestrian last year, but Vettel was as dominant as Schumacher ever was..

Agree on the need for penalties for stupid passes resulting in wrecks. Hamilton in particular was out of control last year.

  • Competition and passing is about 10% of what F1 is about. No one watches it for the great wheel to wheel action.
