Completely agree. The idea of watching a game with the opposing team's fans is ridiculous. It's about watching your team with fellow alums somewhere outside of East Lansing, hopefully enjoying a victory while meeting a few other Spartans. It's not a networking event. If MSU is down in a game that's the last place I should be meeting new people.

Cap Lounge is a great bar and it does have character, but the group is too big for it and they just do a poor job managing it. Getting there an hour and a half early to have a seat and then having to wait 30 minutes plus for beers is not enjoyable. Every time I've gone with friends the service has sucked. The TV situation sucks too, I couldn't believe when they got that big projector and it had a three second lag from every other TV in the place.

It would be really disappointing to settle for one of the big cookie cutter bars (Bailey's is one of the worst run establishments I've ever seen). The alumni base is big enough here that we could fill a good sized place and keep it our own.

And no RFD is absolutely not a better option.

I can't disagree with any of this. Getting there super early for big games is tough on the sleepin and the wallet. Luckily I'm friends with Dmcc and he has no life and can get there early and grab seats. Boom. Roasted!

Also I've always thought a DC tRCMB group would be cool to get together but I know some people don't want to reveal their identity, which is legit too.

Union Pub would probably be a decent alternative but they're probably already contracted with someone.

Cap Lounge would be 1000000000X better if on Saturday's they just made it clear the WHOLE bar was MSU and let us take over both rooms and the basement. Put 3 or 4 more hot bitches on during games too.

  • I see some of the points you guys are making, but I think the Cap Lounge is way better than what the Hawk N Dove was. Granted it gets crowded in a hurry in the side room, but I like that atmosphere. shrug

Maybe I am biased because I am manning the wheels of steel. The bartenders are generally cool people and they have decent beer selection for those from MI. twocents

As far the DC Spartan group organizational skills, it is better than what I saw up in Baltimore.

I bought some batteries, but they weren't included... so I had to buy them again. What do batteries run on?

HnD sucked ass. I agree that I like the vibe I get.

Also, Ariel, Adeena and Larissa are all pretty hot, which is nice for game watching.

  • Mark me (and 3 other spartans) down for going to the FRIB thing at Busboys and Poets. Though starting the thing at 5:30 is a bit early even for those lucky people that get to leave work at 5:00.

Of course. I'm bringing Spartans, not wolverines.

Any bets on the probability that someone makes a complete drunken ass of themselves in front of President Simon? From some of the fine Spartans I've seen on football Saturdays at the Cap Lounge i'm thinking it's pretty good.

They used to do game watches at Bailey's in Ballston, a bar that should never, ever have any business from anyone. If they go back there it will be a disaster of epic proportions.

I don't see a decent alternative to the Cap Lounge.

    Metro access is critical, but:

Bailey's in Ballston IS a dump and it's jammed into that mall.

The Crystal City Sports Bar is OK but it's got too much of the SEC mania going on. But they have plenty of screens.

Mr. Day's is a non-starter in Clarendon. About half the Arlington Co Crime Reports after a weekend are women in Big East jerseys bonkin' each other in the head with beer bottles.

However, Whitlow's in Clarendon could be a takeover candidate. Dunno if any other school claims it. There are a couple of big rooms on the side, off the main bar. Could be an option if they have enough screens.

  • I have some pull with the people that run Clarendon Grill...if you peeps connected with the group want to try there let me know.

Does Whitlows have TV's in the sandbar? That place is smaller than the lounge

  • An interesting alternative to Cap Lounge might be Red Line, the newish place right across the street from the Verizon center. It might not be much of an upgrade in size, but they do have a few tables with taps where you pay by the ounce (Like Meridian Pint in Columbia Heights if anyone's familiar)!

Don't remember if it does or not (I'm usually there for the 50% off burgers on Monday around noon) . It's kind of a narrow but long room, and you are sort of separated from the main bar. But good if you have a big group if they pull out some of the tables. I'll get some pics next week.

IIRC there's like two TV's back there, but they're not big enough for a big crowd.

Although the last two times I've been to Whitlow's, there were fights in the back bar, so if anyone is into boxing...

Hmmm I guess I have it confused. Cancer is a likely excuse though. You could have at least come up with something original.

Possible, I don't even remember mentioning that I went there. Fitting though, that it was for testicular and prostate cancer...
