I see this team being anywhere from a 3 to a 7 seed. How much the loss of lidstrom effects Howard as a goalie will be interesting to see. I am more interested in seeing how all the offseason moves of other teams will change the organizations.

Is Howard the starter or the backup? I really don't know. But whoever the backup is, he's clearly better than the starter. I learned that on talk radio!

I think Howard is the key to the Wings' season - before his injury last year, he was a Vezina favorite (2.03GAA and 32 wins, on pace to break 60 wins IIRC). If he can regain that form, he can carry the team for stretches and hopefully make up for a weaker defense.

Lidstrom is obviously a HOFer, but he'd lost a couple of steps. That said, the Wings don't have huge talent left on D. Might be a tough year if they give more goals and don't up their scoring.
