Considering the offseason moves, Minnesota should definitely be the favorite to win the West

Who did they sign for the other 16 skaters?

What does a few million buy you for 16 NHL players?

And yes. That did actually happen. Why do you think Red Wings fans are conspiracy theorists?

I think you'll see at least one of Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco play pretty regularly this year. Smith, also.

Haven't heard much. Last report I got was he was 'skating' but not 'playing'.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not, so I'll assume not. Even though he's having a good year in GR, I think management wants to see him mature a little more...both on and off the ice.

  • Here's my bold prediction for the year, as well. Petr Mrazek gets his first NHL win. Feel free to speculate as to what else I think that means about te season.

Also, sorry for the triple, but last I checked the wonderful world of 24/7 doesn't allow multiquote.

I think the short season would be the perfect opportunity to see what he can do

Think Howard and/or Gustavsson are going to perform poorly and/or get hurt?

I think we will see a lot of Nyquist. He has a chance to make the team out of "training camp" and if he doesnt, he should be the first one called up. He definitely has the talent to be on an NHL team.

  • I'll be pissed if datsyuk gets stuck with Franzen and Bert again, Russia showed how prolific he is with some faster guys, not two pylons

I agree. I think having one with him is ok but having both Franzen and Bertuzzi on the same line kills the potential Datsyuk has. He doesnt necessarily have to be paired with Zetterberg but it would be nice to see him with filpulla or brunner. Both of those guys atleast have some finesse and speed to compliment what Datsyuk can do

Zetterberg has to be paired with Brunner, at least at first, since they've been such a dynamic duo on the same line in Switzerland.

I think the opposite. I think a longer season, with more games that potentially don't mean as much, would be better for the "let's throw him up here and see what he can do" routine. With fewer games, that's more pressure on teams to win and win often. Not experiment.

I certainly hope neither happen, but given that we're going to have a flurry of games in a hurry, I think the injury concerns are more than warranted.

Very little chance Jurco makes it to the big club at all this year. He'll be a real good player, but it's taking all he's got to stay with AHL competition at the moment.

Nyquist belongs on one of the top 2 lines, certainly he'll be an everyday player. Tatar deserves a regular shift too, but the signings from this Summer will probably limit him to spot duty.

Smith should be in the Top 6 on defense. My darkhorse candidate to get a good look might be Landon Ferraro. He's probably not as good as Sheahan is right now, but he's more mature, consistent and plays the same great two way game as when Miller and Helm are clicking. Also it would be a nice reward for his improved attitude and work overcoming injuries.

I'm not saying they belong, but I think one way or another those 3 will get a look. Remember, you're talking about a team that always hits the injury button with about a month and a half to go. Those are your primary callups, I think.

Ferraro I don't see as much more than a 4th liner. If he makes it as that, cool. If not, I won't be disappointed. Anything more than that is pure gravy.
